It’s still early days in the Premier League to draw any firm conclusions on what kind of shape most of the teams are in.
We all know about the disasterous start to Man United’s season, the sluggish start by Liverpool and the seemingly untouchable start by Man City but beyond that it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.
There’s not much standing out on Saturday unless you fancy a North London Double? Both Spurs and Arsenal should win against Wolves and Bournemouth respectively but you’re only getting even money.
You could make a case for anyone winning the rest of Saturday’s top flight matches so they’re probably best left alone.
In the Championship, Swansea could be a bit of value at home to Luton who have yet to pick up a win. The Swans are overdue a win at home and they thought they’d claimed their first in six when they led 2-0 at home to Millwall going in to extra-time on Tuesday but they threw it away, unbelievably scoring two own goals in the 93rd and 95th minute.
29/20 looks a touch on the generous side against the Hatters who have picked up just two points from 12, scored only twice and suffered an early exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of League Two side, Newport County.
In Scotland, Hibs may not have a better chance to end their 16-year run without a top flight win over Rangers at Easter Road than they do this lunchtime. If you’re going to host the Glasgow giant you’d want to do it sandwiched between arguably their biggest games of the season.
After a 2-2 draw on Thursday night the Gers will have one eye on their return leg with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday. That shouldn’t really deter Giovanni van Bronckhorst from picking a strong team for the trip to Edinburgh and there’ll be plenty of punters drawn in by the 3/5 (Bet365) on offer.
Goals could be on the lunchtime menu. Rangers have conceded in both their away fixtures this season while Hibs have found the net in all three of their games. Martin Boyle provides a much needed focal point for the Hibees and could help contribute to Both Teams to Score at 10/11.
We shouldn’t expect a thriller at McDiarmid Park where St Johnstone welcome Aberdeen. Just eight goals have been scored in the last eight meetings between the sides, with only two seeing Over 1.5 Goals and none going Over 2.5. However, Aberdeen have a bit lively in front of goals, scoring six in their last two to add to the 12 they scored in their four League Cup matches. That makes the 13/8 on them to score Over 1.5 Goals appealing especially as they’ll be desperate to bounce back from last week’s reverse against Motherwell.
Further down the leagues, Cove Rangers do most of their good work at home and have won their only game in the Championship so far at the Balmoral Stadium. Opponents Ayr have had a solid start to their campaign but have conceded four in the last two so Cove look tempting at 6/4 to score Over 1.5 on their own turf.
Peterhead still look worth opposing and Queen of the South have been backed to do so. They’re now the wrong side of evens with most bookies, which is a bit skinny, but you can still get the even money at SBK.
