Aston Villa‘s new manager Unai Emery will watch on as caretaker boss Aaron Danks leads the team at Newcastle this afternoon. Danks guided Villa to a fantastic 4-0 win over Brentford last week but a tougher test awaits in the North East today.
The Magpies impressed in a 2-1 win over Spurs last weekend and they’ve now lost just once 12 games this season and look generously priced at 5/6 (SBK) in front of their home crowd this afternoon against a side that’s won just two points from a possible 18 away from home so far.
Liverpool‘s Jekyll and Hyde season continued in midweek when they followed up last week’s shock defeat at Nottingham Forest with a fine 3-0 win over Ajax. Tonight they host a struggling Leeds United side who’s manager Jesse Marsch is coming under some pressure.
His side are winless in eight have slipped down the table to be one of three teams on just nine points at the foot.
While Liverpool are winless away from home in the Premier League, their home form has been decent with four wins and two draws to their name. Jurgen Klopp’s men are just 3/10 to win tonight in front of the Sky Sports cameras but it’s 5/6 for them to be winning at half-time and full-time.
In Scotland, match of the day is at Ibrox where Aberdeen are the visitors. Rangers suffered another heavy defeat in the Champions League in midweek but it’s their domestic displays that are causing Giovanni van Bronckhorst sleepless nights. A draw with Livingston last week saw them fall four points behind Celtic and there can be no more slip-ups for the Dutchman’s side.
Aberdeen travel to Glasgow in good spirits off the back of four wins in five and will think they can take something from the game. They’re 6/1 to win which is a little bit skinny but you can get 8/11 on them just to find the net.
At Easter Road there’s already rumours of some dressing room unrest. The Hibees have lost three in a row including surrendering the lead to St Johnstone after they were reduced to 10 men last Friday night. Today’s visitors, St Mirren, are up in to fourth in the table and looking good under Stephen Robinson. They’re worthy of more respect than the 4/1 odds suggest today and could be worth a punt.
In League One, FC Edinburgh look too good to be true at 5/6 to score two or more against hapless Peterhead. The hosts have conceded two or more in 11 of 12 league matches and failed to keep a clean sheet all season. FC Edinburgh are just a point behind league leaders Dunfermline and are the league’s top scorers, averaging two per match.
Some money has come for League Two leaders Stirling Albion who host Bonnyrigg Rose this afternoon. They’ve stormed to the top of the table, largely thanks to a stunning 6-0 over longtime leaders Dumbarton. They’re still backable at 8/13 against a Rose side that have lost six of their last seven.
