Manchester United finally turned up on Monday night and put in a much improved performance to claim a win over an out-of-sorts Liverpool.
But it’ll all mean very little if they can’t follow that up with a win over Southampton in today’s lunchtime clash at St Mary’s.
The Saints too gave their fans some cheer last weekend with a 2-1 win at Leicester after falling behind. But they’ve a poor record against against United and have failed to win in any of the last 12 meetings (D5 L7). As for United they’ll be aiming to avoid an EIGHTH consecutive away defeat in the league, their last win on the road coming at Leeds back in February.
It would very Man Utd to undo all the good work on Monday with defeat this afternoon but you’d want bigger than 16/5 to back Southampton. With no indication which United will turn up it might be better to back goals here and Both Teams to get on the scoresheet pays 5/8 add in Over 2.5 Goals to take it to 10/11 (SBK).
Both Chelsea and Leicester have endured poor starts to the season. A 3-0 defeat to Leeds was a real wake-up call for Thomas Tuchel’s side and you’d expect some kind of response from his side today at Stamford Bridge. Their ongoing pursuit of Wesley Fofana looks like it could be nearing an end and the saga has added to the general unease around Leicester this season.
A bruised Chelsea should notch the win but at 2/5 are on the short side. Add in Over 1.5 Chelsea goals and Over 4 Chelsea corners (they’ve the highest corner count in the league so far) for an even money Bet Builder.
Arsenal have arguably been the most impressive in the Premier League so far and should have a comfortable evening against Fulham. The Gunners have made a near-flawless start to the season and can add to their nine goals already scored. Over 2.5 Arsenal goals pays 11/10.
Also keep an eye on Fulham cards. Referee Jarred Gillett dished out 6 cards in last week’s lively encounter between Newcastle and Man City and the Cottagers will be under the cosh for most of the game tonight. They’re 10/11 to pick up most cards and 12/5 to receive Over 2.5 cards.
In Scotland, Ibrox will be buzzing with the prospect of Champions League football on the horizon but with a trip to Celtic Park next weekend there’s no room for slip-ups following a 2-2 draw at Easter Road last week. It should be a routine win for Rangers this afternoon against Ross County and a win to nil looks good at 8/11 considering they’re 1/7 to win.
Aberdeen will be popular, also at 8/11, but you should write off Livingston at your peril. Hibs look too short at 5/4 to win at St Mirren consider four of their five points have been thanks to goals scored after the 90-minute mark. If anything, the in-form Buddies look a bit of value at 5/2.
Further down the leagues Queen’s Park have adpated to life in the Championship better than Cove Rangers and the two side meet today. The Spiders could move in to second in the table with a win and there’s been a wee bit of money for them that’s seen them backed in to 31/20 which looks a backable price.
Match of the day in League One is at East End Park where the unbeaten top two, Dunfermline and Airdrie meet. There’s nothing between the sides in the table and there could be nothing between them on the park. A draw looks likely at 23/10.
Peterhead should continue to be opposed by punters and this weekend they face a trip to Alloa. The Wasps have faced a relatively tough start to the season including defeats to the aforementioned Dunfermline and Airdrie but a win over Kelty promises some hope for the season ahead. If they’re to avoid getting drawn in to a battle with today’s visitors at the foot of the table they need a win today and they’re 3/4 to secure the three points.
