There are four more Premier League games to capture the imagination on Sunday with action at The Hawthorns, The Emirates and Goodison Park.
However, first up is a meeting of familiar foes at St Mary’s as Southampton aim to make it two wins from as many games against Wolves.
More Misery for Wolves
It has hardly come as a surprise to see Wolves struggling since Raul Jimenez’s injury and it could be another afternoon of disappointment when they head to Southampton at noon.
The pair’s last meeting came a recently as Thursday, Saints running out the 2-0 winners in the fifth round of the FA Cup, but they have also had their issues, losing their last five in the Premier League.
That said, they were far slicker than Wolves in the week and while both made changes, the confidence garnered from that win could prove crucial.
The last two renewals of this fixture have provided a combined nine goals, but with belief lacking in both camps, it is tough to see another free-flowing affair.
Southampton are a handy 29/20
to make it just one win in 11 league games for Wolves, with a repeat 2-0 19/2
.
United to Expose Baggies’ Flaws
The impact hoped for when Sam Allardyce took charge of West Brom in December is still to materialise and things do not get any easier with Manchester United coming to town at 14:00.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side only had themselves to blame in drawing 3-3 with Everton last Saturday and were a touch sluggish in Tuesday’s 1-0 AET FA Cup win over West Ham.
Midfielder Scott McTominay proved the difference in that game and is 16/5
to score at anytime on Sunday. However, it was a Bruno Fernandes’ penalty that separated the sides back in November and in a search for value, over 0.5 penalties is 7/5
.
Fernandes is 3/1
to score the opener again in a game that looks set to be one-sided considering the Baggies’ sole home point under Big Sam came courtesy of a 2-2 against fellow strugglers Fulham, a match in which they were outplayed for significant periods.
WBA’s tally of six home points is the worst in the division and with the aggregate from their last six home games 24-3 against them, an away victory and over 3.5 goals in the game stands out at 33/20
.
Whites Will Worry Arsenal
With six wins from 11 away outings, Leeds have looked seriously sharp on the road and are unlikely to fear a trip to Arsenal.
The Gunners were the 5-0 winners the last time the pair met in the Premier League in north London, Thierry Henry hitting four in April 2004, but things are unlikely to be as easy on Sunday.
Arsenal continue to confound, as having turned a corner with a run of seven unbeaten in the league, they then lost at both Wolves and Aston Villa.
Five without defeat at home is cause for optimism, but this Leeds team has recently outplayed Leicester, pushed Everton hard and beaten Crystal Palace 2-0. The reverse fixture finished goalless but should have gone the way of the Whites, who were wasteful in front of goal.
The Gunners sit a point ahead of their rivals heading into this one and considering their recent Emirates results, may just have enough to edge this one at 19/10
in the home win and both teams to score market.
Take the Toffees Despite Fulham Improvement
Finally, to Goodison Park, where Everton host a resurgent Fulham at 19:00. The Toffees won arguably the game of the season so far on Wednesday, beating Tottenham 5-4 in the FA Cup and despite playing extra time, should have had enough time to recover.
Confidence must be high in the camp after also scoring late on to draw 3-3 at Manchester United last weekend.
They will though be without top-scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has a minor hamstring strain and Richarlison is likely to lead the line against a much-improved Fulham defence, a rearguard that has helped them draw their last four away from home in the league.
However, their tally of 17 goals scored is the third-worst in the division and they have lost their last 22 away games at Everton, making the home win stand out at 21/20
.
They have also conceded an average of 2.5 goals per game in their last 14 league trips to Goodison and the 19/4
for a home win by two goals might not be too far off.
