Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool will face another stern test of their title credentials when they welcome Arsenal to Anfield in Monday’s late game.
The Reds have already begun their campaign with hard-fought victories over Leeds and Chelsea, but this could be their toughest appointment to date against a Gunners team that have also enjoyed a faultless start to the season and have recent memories of beating Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Home Advantage Gives Liverpool Edge
Anfield has always been something of a fortress for Liverpool and the club’s current 60-match unbeaten league run on home soil is the third-longest in the history of England’s top four divisions, with Crystal Palace being the last team to win there way back in April 2017.
The Reds have also won each of their last four home games against Arsenal in the league by an aggregate score of 15-3, with the Gunners last tasting victory at the venue in September 2012 when Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla scored the goals in a 2-0 win.
Mikel Arteta’s side have won the last two meetings between the two teams, at the Emirates in the league and at Wembley in the Community Shield last month, but triumphing at Anfield is perhaps a step too far for this much-improved side and a Liverpool win is priced at 10/17.
Goals Guaranteed at Anfield
Premier League meetings between Liverpool and Arsenal have yielded the most goals of any fixture in the competition’s history, with 162 having been scored in the previous 56 clashes.
That has been particularly emphasised in recent meetings with 10 of the last 11 clashes across all competitions having seen both teams score, including a 5-5 draw when the sides last met at Anfield in the EFL Cup back in October 2019.
Given Liverpool have scored 13 goals in their opening three fixtures this season and Arsenal have netted seven, it would be no surprise to see another high-scoring game on Monday, so backing over 3.5 goals in the match at 5/4 looks a tempting option.
Fulham to Get Off the Mark on Home Soil
Monday’s earlier kick-off in the Premier League will see newly-promoted Fulham take on Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.
Scott Parker’s side have lost both of their matches since returning to the top-flight and have looked particularly vulnerable at the back, while Villa have won all three of their games across all competitions so far this term.
That being said, Fulham have a really impressive record against Villa, as they have won the last three meetings between the two sides, including the Championship playoff final back in 2018.
The Cottagers have particularly flourished on home soil when they take on Villa, winning the last five clashes at Craven Cottage since a 0-0 draw back in 2011, while the visitors’ last victory at the venue came in January 2010.
Fulham are priced at 19/10 to emerge from Monday’s contest victorious and they will be buoyed by their midweek 2-0 home success over Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup.
