The standout fixture of Wednesday’s Champions League fixtures comes at the San Siro, where two European heavyweights meet in a crucial clash.
Nobody would have predicted that Inter Milan and Real Madrid would make up the bottom two in Group B after Matchday 3, but that is the situation going into the clash in Milan.
Inter Hopes Could be Over
It was Real who won the reverse fixture, 3-2 earlier this month and Zinedine Zidane will be well aware that a positive result could kill off Inter’s chances of making the knockout stages.
Zidane’s men have been far from their best, but they’ve lost just one of their last six in all competitions and are expected to welcome back several key stars.
Inter came from behind to beat Torino in Serie A at the weekend, but that was just a second win in nine for Antonio Conte’s side.
Real – whose last two games in the group are away to Shakhtar Donetsk and at home to Borussia Monchengladbach – are 9/4
to win on Wednesday night, with Madrid double chance is 20/27
.
Goals on the Cards in Munich
Goals are likely to be on the menu at the Allianz Arena meanwhile, as defending champions Bayern Munich play host to Salzburg.
There were eight when the two sides met in Austria on Matchday 3, with Bayern running out 2-6 winners after Salzburg had taken an early lead.
There have been no fewer than 24 goals in Salzburg’s last five Champions League games, while Bayern’s last seven European games have seen 34 goals – with Hansi Flick’s men scoring 28 of those.
Both teams to score is available at 4/9
and if you fancy another goal fest in Munich, over 4.5 goals can be backed at 11/10
.
Reds Host Ailing Atalanta
Liverpool sit top of Group D with three wins out of three so far, so expect Jurgen Klopp to make a number of changes for Wednesday’s home clash with Atalanta.
With the Reds injury issues, this looks like a tough test for Klopp’s men although they look to be facing the Serie A club at a good time.
Having started their league season with three straight wins, the wheels have fallen off for Atalanta, who have won just two of their last eight games in all competitions – including a 0-5 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Despite their defensive absentees, Liverpool have kept clean sheets in three of their last five matches and a win to zero on Wednesday can be backed at 11/5
.
Having sat out the weekend win over Leicester, Mo Salah is expected to start and the Egyptian star is 20/21
to score at anytime.
Ajax Require Home Success
Also in Group D, Ajax take on Midtjylland in Amsterdam knowing that a win could be crucial in their attempts to reaching the knockout stages.
The Dutch outfit won 1-2 in Denmark in the reverse fixture and on home soil should be too strong for a Midtjylland side who have lost all three of their group games to date, scoring just one goal.
There have been three or more goals in Ajax’s last six matches in all competitions and over 3.5 goals can be backed at 6/5
.
