West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
After enduring a tough stretch to kick off their 2020/21 campaign, West Ham United are in search for some home comfort this Sunday.
The Premier League standings is slowly shaping up as several clubs got off to fast starts.
The Hammers are certainly not one of them as they suffered losses against Newcastle United and Arsenal, and they will have their work cut out for them.
They will be visited by the Wolverhampton Wanderers who are also coming off of a loss against Manchester City, who have shown no signs of rust whatsoever.
Prior to that fixture, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won versus Sheffield United in their opener, and a game like this might help them get back to winning ways.
Either way, this match should be marked on your calendars as it will be filled with numerous Premier League 2020 highlights.
And as always, SBOTOP has you covered with the latest updates in this match preview.
Talking points
West Ham United are undermanned
As if their first two Premier League losses aren’t enough, the Hammers are going to be in for a long night versus the Wolves.
Three of their key people will not be in attendance for this game as team manager David Moyes, centre-back Issa Diop, and midfielder Josh Cullen have all tested positive for COVID-19.
On the other hand, their ace playmaker in Declan Rice reportedly wants out from the club and he has been pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have already spent a fortune with their summer signings in Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, and Edouard Mendy, and it will be interesting if they will pull off this move.
Frank Lampard appears keen about this, but he will have to shell out at least £80-M.
But despite these developments, the Hammers have some semblance of momentum with their recent win over Hull City in the ongoing Carabao Cup.
In the said match, Sebastian Haller and Andriy Yamolenko each scored a brace while Robert Snodgrass set the tone with an early goal en route to the 5-1 victory.
With West Ham coming in undermanned, a bigger load will be put on the shoulders to their attacking combo in Sebastian Haller and Michail Antonio.
Haller and Antonio, who both accounted 17 of their 49 goals last season, would need to get their shooting boots on once more to give themselves a chance against the Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Wolves’ best is yet to come
Chelsea and Tottenham may have looked to be ahead in the transfer game, but the Wolves were able to make some decent additions too.
When they lost Diogo Jota to Liverpool, the Wolves retooled right away by signing Fabio Silva from Porto and Nelson Semedo from Barca in good deals.
The Wolves already have a core consisting much of the Portuguese national team and Adama Traore on the wings, and with their latest additions, the Wolves might contend for the Europa League spot once more.
With a great mix of youth and experience, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men can definitely contend for the European showcase next term.
Furthermore, the veteran manager indicated that the team is not done yet in trying to reinforce their squad.
“Before the transfer window closes we must improve our squad. We must balance it better, we’re working on it,” said Nuno Espirito Santo.
History
The Hammers and the Wolves had it close so far in their overall head-to-head matchup.
In 12 of their Premier League matches against each other, the Wolves won in six while West Ham United won in five along with one draw.
Last term, the Wolves pulled off a double against West Ham United – winning those two fixtures with identical 2-0 tallies.
The Hammers have yet to win against the Wolves in more than four years already.
Betting Tip

September 28, 2:00(GMT+8) |
The updated Premier League 2020 odds points to a close match ahead, but I am picking the Wolves to emerge victorious.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is priced at 2.05, while West Ham United are at 3.75 and chances for a draw are at 3.15 in the 1×2 market.
If goals will be present in this match, there’s no doubt that the Wolves will be the one who will pour it on. However, it looks unlikely that they’ll go for over two goals.
This makes bets such as Under 2.50 @ 1.87 or Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.14 plausible too.
The Wolves may have faced a bump in the road against a formidable team in Manchester City, but they should take care of business come this weekend.
The Hammers are hoping that they’ll turn things around soon because three straight defeats is never considered a good omen by any means.
