Chelsea v Crystal Palace
It doesn’t get much tougher for new Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira who begins the season with a trip to Stamford Bridge. Palace have given top teams plenty to think about in recent seasons, however, this is the start of a new era, and one in which the team are transitioning their style of play.
As a result, Palace’s start to the season could be slow and they may take a few weeks to get up to speed. Chelsea will have been in UEFA Super Cup action in midweek and although they are unlikely to be fatigued, they may not need to get out of second gear here.

Newcastle v West Ham
Newcastle fans have become used to watching their side underachieve, however, there is very little expectation coming into this season. Steve Bruce is still relatively unpopular with the fan-base, however he isn’t as unpopular as chairman Mike Ashley. Newcastle’s squad looks a little short, however, a few late additions including Joe Willock (still yet to be finalised) could help them ease in mid-table.
West Ham enjoyed a hugely successful season and will be confident of getting off to a fast start. Despite this, the Tyneside outfit will be tough to beat and the Hammers may have to settle for a point.
