Manchester City are back in action on Monday as they try to prolong the inevitable and make Liverpool wait for the Premier League title. They take on a Burnley side chasing a top half finish after an excellent run of form prior to the enforced break in play.
The Citizens made an emphatic return to action last week as they beat Arsenal 3-0 in a dramatic contest, and they will be looking to strengthen their grip on second place for the remainder of the campaign.
For Burnley, proceedings in the top flight were halted at the worst possible time. They had won four and drawn three of their last seven games and were slowly closing the gap between them and the European spots. They currently lag just six points behind fifth place Manchester United, although their chances of reducing that deficit on Monday look very slim indeed.

Manchester City vs Burnley Bet Builder tips
Manchester City to Win
Manchester City come into this match off the back of a comfortable win over Arsenal last week, a result which made it ten wins from their 14 Premier League home games this term. In addition, they have won six of their last seven meetings with Burnley and scored 23 goals in the process.
The Clarets were undoubtedly looking good prior to the break, but they have still lost six times on the road this season and been beaten comfortable at Chelsea, Spurs and Sheffield United.
Both teams to score – No
The return of Aymeric Laporte is a huge boost for Manchester City. The Frenchman has played just eight Premier League games this season and Man City have kept a clean sheet in six of these. Astonishingly, they have kept just five clean sheets in the 21 league games without Laporte present, and there’s every chance they would have been a lot more competitive in the title race had their star centre back remained fit.
It’s not just Manchester City’s personnel that limit Burnley’s chances of scoring, though. The Clarets are without Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood up front, who have scored exactly half of Burnley’s league goals this season.
Instead they’ll have to settle for a strikeforce of Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra, who have scored a comparatively poor seven goals in 38 combined appearances. It’s worth mentioning that Burnley have failed to score in five of their last nine road trips and have lost to nil in three of their last four meetings with Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero to score first
Sergio Aguero certainly doesn’t seem to be deteriorating with age, and while he might need a bit more rest than he used to he’s expected to start on Monday after scoring from the bench against Arsenal.
The Manchester City legend has scored 16 Premier League goals this season and has netted the first goal of the game on six occasions. He’s also found the net six times in his last six appearances against Burnley and, in his last five starts against them, he has scored Manchester City’s first goal four times.
Jeff Hendrick to be booked
Burnley are widely known for their last ditch brand of defending, and unsurprisingly that tends to lead to a higher than average number of referee reprimands. The Clarets have the fifth highest yellow card tally in the league, and midfielder Jeff Hendrick has been responsible for eight of their 57 bookings.
The Irishman lags behind only Ashley Westwood in Burnley’s card stats but, while his fellow midfielder has calmed it down of late, Hendrick has been cautioned in three of his last four appearances.
To make matters worse, he has been booked in two of his last three outings against Manchester City, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get into trouble on Monday
Over 7 corners for Man City
Manchester City’s corner count over the past couple of seasons has been nothing short of incredible. They averaged a huge 7.84 corners per game last season and won almost 50 more than their closest competitors Liverpool.
Many thought they couldn’t get any better at winning corners, but this season their average has increased even further. They now win 8.17 corners per game and, with 237 corners to their name, they are the only side yet to top the 200 mark.
Burnley average almost half that number, but more important are their numbers at the other end of the pitch. The Clarets tendency to dive in front of attempted shots has led to them conceding 5.79 corners per game on average, so choosing the hosts to rack up the corner count looks a good idea.
