Although Leicester’s trip to Everton may have been postponed for a second time, there are still two Premier League matches taking place this midweek, starting with Tuesday’s clash between Southampton and Brentford at St Mary’s.
Duo Looking up the Table
While Southampton and Brentford may only be sitting 14th and 12th in the table, respectively, there is a sizeable gap to the bottom three and both clubs are thinking more of what’s ahead of them instead of looking over their shoulders.
The Saints are on a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions heading into the contest and they have been difficult to beat at home this season, losing just one of their nine league games – that coming against Wolves in September.
However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have drawn six of those nine encounters at St Mary’s, as many as they had in the previous two seasons combined, and another share of the spoils can be backed at 49/20.
Brentford make the trip to the south coast in decent form, having beaten Aston Villa 2-1 in the league before thumping Port Vale 4-1 last time out to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Bees have struggled on the road in the league this season, though, and they have failed to win any of their previous five away assignments, losing three times and drawing twice during this poor run.
One thing there should be on Tuesday night is goals and backing over 2.5 at 21/20 looks a solid shout. This bet has landed in seven of Southampton’s last nine matches across all competitions, while over 2.5 goals has happened in six of Brentford’s last eight away games.
Hammers to Continue Top-Four March
After a poor run of form that had West Ham on a five-game winless streak, the Hammers head into Wednesday’s home clash against rock-bottom Norwich City looking to make it four wins on the spin.
David Moyes’ men got the better of Watford and Crystal Palace in the league, scoring seven goals in the process, before slotting two past Leeds United at the weekend to advance into the fourth round of the FA Cup.
West Ham have only lost one of their last five league matches at the London Stadium and they will be confident of overcoming a Norwich side that are on a seven-game winless run in the top flight.
The Canaries have lost their last five league encounters, failing to score and conceding 14 goals in the process, and they have been hit by the news midfielder Billy Gilmour is out for up to four weeks with an ankle injury.
Dean Smith’s men did beat Charlton 1-0 in the FA Cup third round at the weekend, but Norwich only secured that win against their League One opponents late on and they will be punished if they don’t improve on that performance on Wednesday.
The Canaries have also only won one of their last 21 away Premier League games and it is no surprise to see West Ham the 5/18 favourites to pick up the win, while a home win to nil appeals at 20/21.
