IT’S finally here, after a long long 7 months, week 1 of the regular season got underway on Thursday and we started off with an easy winner as the under cashed with ease in the opening game of the weekend. Today is the big one though, I’ll have eye on Redzone, and one eye on a few games throughout the evening.
My main problem with this week was narrowing things down to just a few bets, after such a long time without football it’s easy to get carried away and back everything in every game, but I’ll do my best at narrowing things down.
Bet 1 – Jaguars to blunt Chiefs attack
After watching the farce of the offenses on Thursday night it may well be a running theme that offenses start slowly for the season, so despite the Chiefs having the most explosive offense in the league last year, and likely for most of this year I like the unders in this.
They faced each other last year and the Jags slowed down Tyreek Hill by pressuring him at the line and giving extra coverage.
The Chiefs defense has improved on last year as well so should be able to slow down Leonard Fournette as the main man in the Jags attack.
- Under 50.5 total points – 10/11 everywhere.
Bet 2 – Hapless Bengals get run all over
Chris Carson is my bet of the night to score against the Bengals in the Seahawks opener over the in the NW of the states.
They have a great home-field advantage and with the Seahawks leading the league in rush attempts last season they match up very well against a Bengals side who were 4th worst against the run last season.
The Bengals haven’t done a whole lot to change that fact, and with Chris Carson being talked about getting more work in the passing game I can see him scoring at least once in this one.
- Chris Carson anytime TD – 13/10 (Ladbrokes)
Bet 3 – Godwin to take advantage in shootout
I like the 49ers v Buccs game to be the highest scoring of the weekend. The Buccs will play a lot of 4 wide receiver sets and Bruce Arians has proven to be an offensively minded coach. Match him up with an aggressive QB who isn’t afraid to air the ball out and you’ve got the potential to be in high scoring games every week.
Mike Evans is the main target in Tampa, but he’s been struggling with illness all week and will face the main coverage, so I like the odds of Chris Godwin scoring tonight. He had a good season last year and is expected to take another big step forward this season as well.
- Chris Godwin anytime TD – 7/4 (Skybet)
Bet 4 – John Brown to smoke beaten up Jets.
The Bills vs the Jets is one of the more intriguing games of the weekend with the two teams improving greatly over the summer and likely fighting it out for the second spot in the AFC East. The Bills have Josh Allen at QB who has a huge arm and isn’t afraid to throw it downfield, so they did the right thing and gave him someone who plays that way.
John Brown comes in from the Ravens and loves the go route down the field, his yardage line is set pretty low tonight and I think he’ll surpass it on one play
- John Brown o37.5 receiving yards – 5/6 (William Hill)
That’s a little preview of what’s to come for the season, I love looking at the prop markets and finding value, there’s a lot more detail on my blog (www.tdtips.com) if you want a longer read.
Good luck and enjoy Redzone!
