Racing Post tipster Tom Collins previews Saturday’s action at Newmarket exclusively for MansionBet.
1.00 Newmarket – MansionBet Proud To Support British Racing British EBF Novice Stakes
More than half of the field in this opening novice event have no prior racecourse experience. Adnaan’s Super Sprint fifth sets the form standard but he appeared flattered by that performance and could be worth opposing with newcomer Rocket Yogi.
By top-class juvenile Fast Company, Rocket Yogi may be a ‘now’ horse rather than a long-term prospect and has been found a winnable race to begin his career.
Selection: Rocket Yogi @ 16/1
1.30 Newmarket – MansionBet’s Watch And Bet Fillies’ Nursery Handicap
Trainer Roger Charlton boasts an eyecatching 19 per cent strike-rate (15-81) with his two-year-olds on the July course at Newmarket, resulting in a £1 level-stakes profit of +£11.46. He is represented by three-race maiden Annie’s Song in this nursery, which looks the right spot for the daughter of Camacho.
She finished third in a red-hot maiden here in June, which was won by subsequent Group 3 heroine Zain Claudette, and appears leniently treated off an opening mark of 77.
Selection: Annie’s Song @ 9/2
2.00 Newmarket – MansionBet Bet £10 Get £20 Fillies’ Handicap
Single isn’t the most prolific of fillies (2-25 in her career) but she ran a hugely promising race when last seen at Ascot and has to be supported at a big price in this staying handicap. She produced the fastest sectional in each of the last four furlongs in a race that was run at a fast gallop.
She could never get close to eventual winner Speedo Boy and runner-up Star Caliber, who were on the pace throughout, but she did by far the best of the hold-up performers. Rose Dawes’ 7lb claim helps her cause.
Selection: Single @ 9/1
2.35 Newmarket – MansionBet Beaten By A Head Grey Horse Handicap
As aesthetically-pleasing as watching a field full of grey horses thundering up the July course is, finding the winner is more important for punters. My Style looks the standout for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton, who has seemingly targeted this race since last summer.
A decisive winner here 12 months ago, My Style has dropped to a workable mark of 74 and shaped like a surefire future winner at this track last time.
Selection: My Style @ 6/1
3.05 Newmarket – Download The MansionBet App Handicap
Great Ambassador remains progressive after just 11 starts and looked unlucky to lose out in a close finish to the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood when last seen.
The Ed Walker trainee finished third despite being forced to veer across the track to join the protagonists in the stands’ side group after becoming isolated from his low draw. Great Ambassador beat the rest of his side by a considerable margin and can make amends off 1lb higher here.
Selection: Great Ambassador @ 2/1
3.40 Newmarket – MansionBet At Newmarket Handicap
Lightly raced for his age, Pledge Of Honour has shaped as if he needs a stiffer test of stamina on his last three runs over 1m2f and deserves plenty of respect now that he is upped in trip by trainer Dean Ivory.
He was far from disgraced when forced to make his challenge earlier than ideal at this track in June and now appears well treated off his falling mark of 74.
Selection: Pledge Of Honour @ 9/1
4.15 Newmarket – Follow @MansionBet This Betstival Season Fillies’ Handicap
Richard Kingscote has recently relinquished rides for Tom Dascombe to take up a bigger role for Sir Michael Stoute, and the duo can add another winner to their ever-increasing tally courtesy of Degree.
This unexposed miler comfortably beat a subsequent winner when losing her maiden tag at Wolverhampton in May, before finishing third under a penalty at Lingfield in a race that has worked out well. She is the class of this field and should take all the beating if she handles turf.
Selection: Degree @ 3/1.
