Friday’s eight-race card (12.45-4.45) includes the Group 1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile at 3.35 amongst a host of cracking two-year-old contests.
You can watch every race from Newmarket via live streaming when logged into MansionBet and our tipster has selections below for all eight races.
12.45 – Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f)
John Gosden’s Haija sets the standard of those that have run, having finished second over a mile here on debut last month. There ought to be plenty more to come, while Achelios is another potential improver.
Charlie Appleby introduced Spring Of Love to win this a year ago and, together with red-hot rider William Buick, he’s got leading claims again with DIVINE LIGHT. A 370,000 gns daughter of Kingman, she’s well-related and likely to be ready for this opening test under Buick’s steer.
Selection: Divine Light @ 10/3
1.15 – Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f)
Perhaps the weaker of the two divisions and a race in which Nebulosa will try to put her experience to good use for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy.
Appleby and Buick could have eyes on both the opening races with Romantic Song – a Shamardal filly with plenty appeal on pedigree – but it’s another debutante in HAMHAMA that earns the nod for John Gosden and Jim Crowley. The Slade Power filly cost 160,000 gns as a yearling and is a half-sister to Threat, one of the last year’s smartest juveniles.
Selection: Hamhama @ 9/2
1.50 – Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (5f)
Things didn’t go his way here in the Middle Park last month but METHOD was strong in the betting for that Group 1 and his run is easily forgiven as the saddle slipped under Frankie Dettori before halfway.
His earlier form is strong and the drop to 5f as well as slower ground shouldn’t inconvenience him. Eased into a Group 3 now, he can stamp his class on this race.
Selection: Method @ 15/8
2.25 – Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3, 7f)
It’s clear that Joseph O’Brien’s team hold Thinking Of You in high regard and the American Pharoah filly looked somewhat unlucky in running at the Curragh 12 days ago in a Group 3 on her second start.
She could have plenty more to offer but SAFFRON BEACH made a sparkling debut with a C&D win just a day after that run and Jane Chapple-Hyam’s New Bay filly looks a classy sort in the making. She earns the nod, though Rockfel Stakes runner-up Nazuna is greatly feared.
Selection: Saffron Beach @ 3/1
3.00 – Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes (Group 2, 7f)
If Khaloosy can rediscover the star-potential he showed at Royal Ascot in June he’s got standout claims but both runs since have been disappointing. Daahyeh was a very smart two-year-old filly last year (winning the Albany at Royal Ascot and the C&D Rockfel Stakes) and rates as one of the most intriguing runners on the card.
Roger Varian’s charge must overcome 343 days out however. On that basis, the rock-solid and consistent HAPPY POWER makes most appeal. He’s in winning form and handles these conditions.
Selection: Happy Power @ 9/2
3.35 – bet365 Fillies’ Mile (Group 1, 1m)
Indigo Girl remains unbeaten following her May Hill success at Doncaster but she’ll need to run straighter to master these rivals. Irish duo Pretty Gorgeous and Shale meet for the fourth time this season with Donnacha O’Brien’s filly leading 2-1 after a gutsy Moyglare win last month. Little separates them in truth.
ISABELLA GILES was most impressive in the Rockfel here (7f, good) a fortnight ago and will handle soft ground. She should handle a mile and is a big player for Adam Kirby and Clive Cox in a strong Fillies’ Mile.
Selection: Isabella Giles @ 4/1
4.10 – bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m4f)
KIPPS has received the vote a number of times now since his promising early summer form, following a near miss at Haydock (should have won) with a Royal Ascot second. He’s been there or thereabouts in some hot handicaps since and deserves a chance of luck.
There are a host of rivals with winning form entering this race, but perhaps Hughie Morrison’s War Command colt will get his turn – and the price is now much more enticing.
Selection: Kipps @ 12/1
4.45 – Darley Pride Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3, 1m2f)
Franconia surely wasn’t herself in the Yorkshire Oaks and is a big threat if bouncing back while Anna Nerium excelled on first start at this trip last month at Goodwood and is respected.
The progressive three-year-old ANGEL POWER gets the nod after coming home strongly to win a Listed contest in France at this distance last month on soft ground. She’s still on the upgrade and conditions are set to be favourable.
Selection: Angel Power @ 9/2
