It’s the third and final afternoon of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket (13:15-16:40) and the seven-race card is dripping with quality, including Group 1s via the Cheveley Park Stakes and Middle Park Stakes as well as the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes and, of course, the Cambridgeshire itself at 15:35.
You can watch all the action from Newmarket via live streaming when logged into MansionBet and our tipster has selections below to help you uncover some winners.
13:15 – Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f)
A wide open fillies’ maiden to get things underway at Headquarters. Wootton Creek and Hidden Breeze both showed promise on their debuts and can improve while the Khalid Abdullah-owned duo of Quilted and Vesela, representing Roger Charlton and Ralph Beckett respectively, are both by Frankel and much-respected on debut. CONSERVATOIRE was very green on debut but came home quite nicely under a tender ride and William Haggas’ charge may have more to offer now under recent Saturday specialist Tom Marquand on a day when her owners would love to have a winner here.
Tip: Conservatoire @ 7/1
13:50 – Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
A field of five in the Group 2 Royal Lodge and they all have their hopes. New Mandate was gutsy up the rail at Doncaster under an inspired Frankie Dettori and looks likely to improve upped to 1m while Aidan O’Brien goes for a hat-trick of wins with Ontario and Mark Johnston’s Gear Up is unbeaten. However, ready preference is for COBH to give Clive Cox and Adam Kirby key-race wins on successive days. He’s won 2-3 so far and his Ascot defeat behind subsequent Champagne Stakes winner Chindit has worked out very well. He also beat a subsequent Listed winner at Salisbury last month when tackling this distance for the first time.
Tip: Cobh @ 5/2
14:25 – Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1, 6f)
Miss Amulet beat SACRED fair and square in the Lowther last month at York but William Haggas’ filly might get revenge. She has since been a somewhat luckless second in the Flying Childers at Doncaster (5f) and has now finished second in three major races since a winning debut here in June. She deserves a change of fortune and perhaps the newly added cheekpieces will help provide it. The unbeaten Dandalla is much-respected.
Tip: Sacred @ 11/2
15:00 – Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (Group 1, 6f)
Another unbeaten contender here with Method representing Martyn Meade under that man Dettori. He has swatted aside some useful rivals in his two wins and rates a serious contender but Irish raider LUCKY VEGA might take his measure. His Group 1 Phoenix Stakes win last month at the Curragh is the best form on offer and he ran into major traffic woes in the National Stakes back there this month. Jessica Harrington’s colt sets a very clear standard.
Tip: Lucky Vega @ 11/4
15:35 – Cambridgeshire Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m1f)
It’s 26 years since John Gosden and Frankie Dettori first teamed-up to win this race and they are bidding for a hat-trick now after wins for Wissahickon and Lord North. They might just get it with AL RUFAA. He’s been progressive this summer despite a tendency to be keen in his races. His latest Haydock setback is easily forgiven and, with the Italian on board for the first time, if he can be coaxed to settle there may be a big effort in him over this new trip.
Tip: Al Rufaa @ 20/1
16:10 – British Stallion Studs EBF ‘Jersey Lily’ Fillies’ Nursery (7f)
This is probably a strong nursery and market leader Meu Amor is respected but Alan King’s DROMQUINNA can go well from a mark of 79 after looking a shade unlucky on handicap bow at Lingfield recently. He was in a battle from the home turn and the only place he didn’t seem to have the best of it was on the line. He can cope with a drop back to 7f and should give Martin Harley a good spin at an each-way price.
Tip: Dromquinna @ 14/1
16:40 – Bentley Motors Handicap (7f)
The hat-trick seeking Documenting is a good starting point and should give this a run in spite of carrying top weight. Preference in a tough finale however is for FLEETING PRINCE, second behind the re-opposing Cry Havoc on the all-weather at Chelmsford recently. He’s much better off at the weights now and his earlier turf form this summer was full of promise. In William Buick he also has a partner that rides this place better than most.
Tip: Fleeting Prince @ 15/2
