It’s day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket on Friday afternoon with seven-races from 1.15pm to 4.45pm including Group 2s via the Rockfel Stakes and the Joel Stakes.
Can 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko get back on track for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy in the feature at 3.35pm? You can watch all the Newmarket action via live streaming when logged into MansionBet and our tipster has selections below for all seven races.
1.15 – Derrinstown Irish Ebf Maiden Stakes (7f)
Crossford sets the standard of those that have run and should improve from his third place finish at Doncaster on debut recently but Charlie Appleby’s record at Newmarket is exceptionally strong and he brings out a strong looking Godolphin newcomer in QUINTILLUS. The Dubawi colt has lots going for him on paper and has been strong in the market. He could be up to this challenge.
Tip: Quintillus @ 15/8
1.50 – Tasleet British EBF Rosemary Stakes (Listed) (Fillies And Mares, 1m)
Ummalnar is intriguing for the William Haggas team here despite being absent since her Ascot success 14 months ago. This isn’t going to be easy with that lack of match sharpness in mind though.
Cloak Of Spirits ran well in a Doncaster Group 2 earlier this month and may do so again but BOUNCE THE BLUES came from the rear to finish ahead of her when third in that contest on first start for Andrew Balding after transferring from Ireland. With Oisin Murphy on board this time she could take halting.
Tip: Bounce The Blues @ 4/1
2.25 – Princess Royal Muhaarar Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies And Mares, 1m4f)
Second to Love in the Yorkshire Oaks last month, Alpinista will be popular here for Sir Mark Prescott and is feared but KATARA impressed at this venue in July when tackling 1m4f for the first time with a decisive Listed success.
Assuming the rain stays away the Deep Impact filly is fancied to make further progress now and continue winning ways. Antonia De Vega and Sea Of Faith must concede penalties in a race that has cut up with two late defections.
Tip: Katara @ 5/2
3.00 – Shadwell Rockfel Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2, 7f)
Aidan O’Brien has taken this three times since 2007 and there could be plenty more to come from recent Leopardstown scorer Monday but she might need it to stop Prestige winner ISABELLA GILES for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby.
She’s been beaten only once in four starts (by the re-opposing Santosha at Ascot in July) but really stepped forward with that Goodwood success since. Any easing in conditions will be in her favour.
Tip: Isabella Giles @ 2/1
3.35 – Shadwell Joel Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
Benbatl won this in fine style last year and goes well fresh. The Godolphin inmate is a massive contender again from the front but perhaps he’ll set this up for KAMEKO. The 2,000 Guineas winner will surely thrive if he gets a fast-run mile again back at the scene of his Classic success in June.
He looked to be going as well as anything in the Sussex at Glorious Goodwood when encountering traffic issues and last month’s Juddmonte International at York saw Ghaiyyath exposing his stamina. Top Rank and Tilsit are not without their hopes.
Tip: Kameko @ 11/4
4.10 – Eqtidaar Godolphin Stakes (Listed, 1m4f)
A long absence has to be a worry but Ralph Beckett has tried getting ALOE VERA back to the track earlier this summer and so we can only assume the unbeaten Invincible Spirit filly will be forward enough to do herself justice. She won a Goodwood Listed race on second start last year and remains with lots of untapped potential up in distance.
Loxley was second in this last year and sets the standard while Laafy has been flying in handicaps and warrants a crack at this level.
Tip: Aloe Vera @ 5/1
4.45 – Shadwell Farm Handicap (1m1f)
Lots of these are in flying form and perhaps it will be third time lucky for Irish import KATTANI for Mick Appleby and in-form rider James Doyle.
The former Dermot Weld inmate has been second in his last two starts at Windsor and Newbury and looks to be on a good mark now with a 4lb rise looming. The early morning defection of Make It Rain for the Crisford team looks a help.
Tip: Kattani @ 4/1
