It’s a bumper day of racing action on Sunday and nowhere more so than at Newbury where they’ve got an action-packed card that includes the MansionBet Spring Cup at 3.20pm.
There’s also Group 3 contests via the Fred Darling Stakes and the Greenham Stakes on a busy eight-race card from 1.00pm-5.05pm.

1.00 – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes (1m)
Both Derab and SNOW LANTERN took silver medals at Ascot over 7f in their only two-year-old outings. They both did so behind group-race performers and with multiple subsequent winners behind them.
They are both bred to appreciate this mile trip and likely have plenty progress in them this season. La Barrosa held Derab, and he upgraded that form with a near miss in the Craven this week but the filly gets 5lb and holds multiple Classic-entries.
Richard Hannon’s Frankel filly just edges the verdict as she’s a better price.

1.35 – Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (Group 3, 1m4f)
Al Aasy was out of sorts at Glorious Goodwood when last spotted, but his earlier Newmarket success was very promising and there should be a bounce-back in him. He’ll be short enough in the betting.
Without A Fight is another contender but maybe first time out is the time for KIPPS to strike. He was something of a nearly-horse last season, failing to build completely on a very promising start back.
He went off favourite for a C&D contest in this grade on final start and wouldn’t have been suited by heavy going. He may do better at four and is a decent price.

2.10 – Dubai Duty Free Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3, 7f) (Registered As The Fred Darling Stakes)
There wasn’t much between ALCOHOL FREE (first) and Umm Kulthum (third) in the Cheveley Park Stakes last season.
Andrew Balding’s daughter of No Nay Never is clearly bred for speed, but she was nothing if not game in holding on for that Newmarket Group 1 and may see this out. Richard Fahey’s runner joins fourth home that day Happy Romance and Isabella Giles amongst the main threats.

2.45 – Watership Down Stud Too Darn Hot Greenham Stakes (Group 3, 7f)
Soft ground in the Dewhurst probably didn’t help Chindit. His earlier form (3-3) made him one of the finest juveniles of last season and he may have plenty more to offer this season.
So, too, NANDO PARRADO, winner of the Coventry at Royal Ascot last June on his just his second start. He subsequently took silver medals in a pair of French Group 1 races over 6f/7f on soft/heavy and he can go forward again back on decent ground. He may offer some value in the betting.

3.20 – MansionBet Spring Cup Handicap (1m)
Troll Peninsula and Raaeq are strong contenders in this mile contest but JOHAN is put forward against them.
He showed a good turf of foot when scoring over C&D last season on his return to action and built on that form in the autumn when scoring at Ayr and Chelmsford. He can hit the ground running again for a new term.

3.55 – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes (1m)
A Frankel colt with plenty smart winners in his family, Counsel found only one too strong on debut at Newcastle in December and should have a leading say on this turf switch.
FOXES TALES filled the same berth at Kempton the same month, despite clear signs of greenness. He’d have got up in another stride and Andrew Balding’s charge may make it second time lucky.

4.30 – MansionBet Beaten By A Head Maiden Stakes (1m3f)
Newcomer Glen Savage is one to note for John & Thady Gosden, but Vino Victrix and TITLE set a solid enough bar to aim at.
The latter, a colt by Camelot, just failed to peg back all-the-way winner Aleas (won again next start) on debut over a mile on heavy ground here in October.
The fourth and sixth from that contest also won next time and this increased test of stamina looks the way to go now.

5.05 – Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap (1m2f)
Top-weight Frontispiece has won over this trip and goes well fresh, but his three runs last summer all came over further so there is a question to answer coming back in distance.
High Commissioner has won his last two on the AW either side of a break, but has a career-high mark to defy back on turf.
AADDEEY finished third when last spotted at Yarmouth on handicap bow, failing to give weight to a solid duo ahead of him.
He’s been gelded since and retains plenty scope for better things back over the trip at which he was a decisive winner at Nottingham on good ground in the second of three runs last term.
