Newbury are almost at the end of another Flat racing season and they stage a seven-race card this afternoon (1.50-5.20).
Amongst the highlights are a pair of Group 3 races via the Horris Hill Stakes (3.35) and the Pravha Stakes (4.10). Watch all the Newbury action – as well as every UK and Ireland race – via live streaming when logged into MansionBet.
Our tipster marks your card for today’s Newbury races below.
1.50 – Molson Coors Beverage Company EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (1m)
Oasis Cove and Nastasiya set the standard from those that have run, though it’s not a high bar. Preference would be for Ed Walker’s filly under Hollie Doyle, as she caught the eye when staying on into third on her debut over 1m at Haydock a month ago. Debutante ENJOY could be good enough to land this for Ralph Beckett and Cieren Fallon. She’s a 120,000 gns Lope De Vega filly related to some good sorts and should be ready to go.
Selection: Enjoy @ 6/1
2.25 – Download The tote Placepot App Nursery (6f)
Epsom’s Woodcote winner Twaasol starts into nurseries from a mark of 94 and must carry a hefty burden against this quartet of rivals. That won’t be easy on the prevailing testing surface and ready preference therefore goes to CARIBOU. He won a Goodwood novice on heavy ground this month and an opening mark of 74 could be lenient. Hollie Doyle’s mount has excellent claims, with Salisbury third Mahaamel feared most.
Selection: Caribou @ 6/4
3.00 – Racing TV Stakes (Registered As The Radley Stakes) (Fillies’ Listed, 7f)
SETARHE ran a decent race in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket on soft ground recently and, while she’s more exposed than a few of these, Roger Varian’s filly is also very consistent. A Listed race isn’t beyond her and she’s an each-way price. Love Is You made a fine start at Ascot last month (1m, good) and will have strong prospects if handling this vastly different ground.
Selection: Setarhe @ 6/1
3.35 – Molson Coors Beverage Company Stakes (Registered As The Horris Hill Stakes) (Group 3, 7f)
Existent took a nice step forward when routing his rivals on heavy ground at Newmarket (7f) at the start of this month and will surely relish these conditions but LANEQASH should still have the class to overcome him. An Ascot scorer on debut, he split New Mandate and One Ruler in a Doncaster Listed race last month (collared very late on) and both those rivals have been group-race winners since. That’s much the strongest form offered up and the ground is perhaps the only reason he’s not odds-on.
Selection: Laneqash @ 13/8
4.10 – Pravha Stakes (Registered As The St Simon Stakes) (Group 3, 1m4f)
This is wide open. Kipps has been hovering in handicaps all season without scoring. He’s up in grade here but it wouldn’t be a shock if he again looms around the places at a big price. Alounak has the best form but winning doesn’t come easy so AWAY HE GOES gets the nod. He ran well enough in this grade in France (heavy) on penultimate start before readily winning a Doncaster handicap last month. He should be in the mix.
Selection: Away He Goes @ 7/2
4.45 – Download The tote Placepot App Handicap (1m2f)
TEMPUS was progressing nicely prior to his Cambridgeshire sixth last month but that still amounted to a fair effort and there may still be more to come upped in distance with a return to slower ground in his favour. The consistent Snow Ocean (proven on heavy ground) remains in fine form and is a viable each-way contender under Harry Bentley.
Selection: Tempus @ 3/1
5.20 – Worthington’s Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (1m4f)
Azor Ahai holds obvious claims having gone close at Windsor on Monday from this mark under top amateur Simon Walker. He’s got strong claims with a repeat. For some value however it’s worth considering CELTIC CLASSIC for Paul Cole and Becky Smith. He’s only had seven turf starts and his Lingfield win last summer was on soft ground. He has won from this mark since on the AW and returns to grass after some decent efforts on the synthetics lately.
Selection: Celtic Classic @ 12/1
