There’s an afternoon of jumps action in store at Newbury on Wednesday with a MansionBet-sponsored seven-race card taking place.
Racing is underway at 12:55pm through until 4.05pm and you watch every race via live streaming when logged into MansionBet, alongside all the UK and Irish action. Our tipster has selections for all of today’s Newbury races.
12:55 – MansionBet Is Proud To Sponsor British Racing Novices’ Hurdle (2m)
The form choice is Emma Lavelle’s Kempton bumper winner Hoi Polloi, who has since finished second at Hereford (2m3½f, soft) on hurdling bow in November. He didn’t jump fluently enough to justify even-money favouritism but certainly offered something to work with. He is though facing a £450,000 newcomer from the Nicky Henderson catalogue in GALLYHILL and may again settle for minors. It’s 424 days since the Getaway gelding won his Irish point but his presence is greatly respected.
Selection: Gallyhill @ 8/11
13:25 – MansionBet’s Watch And Bet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (2m½f)
Both Birchdale and Harambe were better hurdlers that FUNAMBULE SIVOLA but Venetia Williams’ (pictured) charge is taking very nicely to chasing, having won 2-3 starts this season (excuses in middle run). He won well over C&D three weeks ago and can make the most of the weight he receives from those rivals, with the market already speaking strongly in his favour. Birchdale has twice failed to impress in chases thus far, while Alan King’s 2019 Greatwood Hurdle scorer hasn’t scaled the heights in two starts over timber this term.
Selection: Funambule Sivola @ 6/4
14:00 – British EBF Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (2m4½f)
A double penalty is certain to make things tougher on Little River Bay but Philip Hobbs’ charge sets a fair standard nonetheless. Newcomers Hamilton’s Fantasy and SHIROCCO’S DREAM have found their way to the front of the market and both look promising. The Royal runner was second in a good Ascot bumper in November and represents last year’s winning trainer in Nicky Henderson but slight preference is for Colin Tizzard’s mare. She changed hands for £260,000 after winning her point in Ireland and could be a good one.
Selection: Shirocco’s Dream @ 4/1
14:30 – MansionBet’s Faller Insurance Handicap Hurdle (2m)
Heart Of A Lion was interesting here until his defection this morning and he may have cleared the way for GOWEL ROAD. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge was fourth in what looked a decent ‘Introductory’ Hurdle over C&D three weeks ago. He now makes the move into handicaps and has clear scope to exceed a mark of 122.
Selection: Gowel Road @ 7/2
15:05 – MansionBet Hurdle McHurdleface Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (2m)
David Pipe’s Panic Attack impressed over C&D three weeks ago, coming clear to score with plenty in hand. An 11lb hike isn’t certain to halt her progress but it’s enough to deter wading in at short odds. SCHIAPARANNIE has bagged two of three starts for her new trainer and can go well again despite a 5lb rise for her Kelso win on that same day Panic Attack was scoring here.
Selection: Schiaparannie @ 7/1
15:35 – MansionBet’s Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase (2m7½f)
The veteran Fagan showed he retains plenty of enthusiasm when finishing third back over fences at Ludlow (3m1½f, good to soft) in early December and another good run should be forthcoming from the same mark. However, FORGOT TO ASK will surely get his turn again soon if he continues the consistency shown in all three starts this season. Tom George’s nine-year-old remains on a mark of 119 and should be in the shake-up.
Selection: Forgot To Ask @ 15/2
16:05 – Play 3-2-Win At MansionBet Standard Open NH Flat Race (2m)
Broomfield Burg represents the powerful combination of JP McManus and Nicky Henderson and, as with all newcomers from Seven Barrows, is greatly respected. There’s plenty of danger to the market leader, however. Ben Pauling has won the last two renewals of this bumper and will hope Fine Casting can make it a hat-trick after a pleasing second at Warwick most recently, while Golden Roc represents a Warren Greatrex yard that traditionally does well in bumpers (albeit quieter this season). Colin Tizzard by comparison doesn’t tend to have as many bumper scorers as some of his peers but the Dorset handler does have a sound place record in this sphere and newcomer MOVING DAY may be capable of outrunning a big price.
Selection: Moving Day @ 18/1
