The feature on the card at Newbury is the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes (4.00pm) while there’s also a pair of Listed races via the Rose Bowl Stakes and the Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes.
Racing is underway from 12.30pm through until 5.00pm and you can watch all the action via live streaming when logged into MansionBet. Our tipster has selections for each race on the card.
12.30 bet365 Fillies’ Novice Stakes (1m2f)
La Dragontea was an excellent third in Lingfield’s Oaks Trial behind Miss Yoda last month at a massive price and has since gone well again at Kempton. She sets the standard on those efforts. Roger Varian’s JAAIZAH gets the nod having stayed on promisingly into second at Haydock last time. This longer trip looks the way to go and she’s got plenty of scope for better. Coconut was ahead of the selection on debut here and also needs respecting.
Tip: Jaaizah
1.05 bet365 EBF Novice Stakes (7f)
The newcomers may dominate this despite a good second from Longlai last time at Doncaster. The betting will be an essential guide but, on paper, the pair that appeal are Rushmore and MAXIMAL. Qatar Racing stumped up 500,000 gns for their son of Lope De Vega and he should know his task on debut but preference is for Sir Michael Stoute’s Galileo colt. He has plenty of winners in his pedigree and his dam was a half-sister to the great Frankel. With Ryan Moore on board, he’s set for a leading role.
Tip: Maximal
1.40 bet365 EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (6f)
OUTKAST shaped with plenty of promise on debut over C&D recently having looked a bit green in attempting to get into the contest from the rear. She eventually closed well and should know a good deal more now. Newcomers Isla Vista, Jacinth and Deise Blue are all very interesting and any strong vibes in the betting should be heeded.
Tip: Outkast
2.15 bet365 Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed, 6f)
It was hard not to be impressed by the performance of Method on debut at Doncaster three weeks ago. He quickened right away from his rivals and the runner-up narrowly missed out on a Group 2 prize at Newmarket last weekend. Martyn Meade’s son of Mehmas has the right credentials for this mission.
He’s short in the betting though and BOWMAN should provide a stern test. Mark Johnston’s charge is improving with each run bar a forgettable experience at Pontefract on second outing. He should benefit from a strong pace in this event and it was pleasing how he picked up the pacesetter at Lingfield last time. He’s the each-way play in this field.
Tip: Bowman
2.50 British EBF/bet365 Premier Fillies’ Handicap (Straight 1m)
The William Haggas-trained Tomorrow’s Dream justified favouritism on her comeback at Chepstow, eventually coming home with a bit to spare after taking some time to hit full stride. That was over 7f and this longer trip has to be viewed as a positive. She’s up 8lb in a better race though and HUBOOR comes here after an excellent run in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot last month.
She can offer more on this second tilt at the mile and shouldn’t be far away in that instance for a Mark Johnston team that continues to thrive.
Tip: Huboor
3.25 bet365 Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 1m 4f)
CABALETTA ran well in this grade here last month on her comeback over 1m2f and that form is decent. She tackled this trip since at Haydock and likely paid a price for going plenty fast early on in the soft ground in a race won by the smart filly Manuela De Vega. This isn’t as strong and Roger Varian’s charge is worth another chance.
La Lune is lightly-raced and put up a very pleasing effort after a year off at Pontefract 33 days ago. Henry Candy’s charge is surely going to have more to come and rates a solid contender.
Tip: Cabaletta
4.00 bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3, 6f)
There’s a really wide open feel to this Group 3 sprint and you wouldn’t want to cross anything off in haste. Former winner The Tin Man put up a decent show in a strong Diamond Jubilee at Ascot last month and needs a look easing in grade now.
Three-year-olds have done well in this recently and REPARTEE may enhance their record. Kevin Ryan’s son of Invincible Spirit was a Listed winner against his own generation on return at Windsor and did that in determined fashion, going away at the line. That run bodes well on the clock and he can make the most of the weight he gets from his elders.
Tip: Repartee
4.30 Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap Division 1 (1m)
IMAGE OF THE MOON has been held in two recent starts on the all-weather at Kempton but may do much better back on turf from a lower mark. She is lightly-raced on this surface and was runner-up last summer over C&D. She eases in grade here and can go well under Josephine Gordon, ensuring she gets the nod over the thriving Sir Plato; who remains well treated despite a 9lb hike for his latest Chepstow win.
Tip: Image Of The Moon
5.00 Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap Division 2 (1m)
Not the most appealing finale and recent Lingfield scorer VOICE OF CALM looks the best placed having had a pair of next-time-out winners behind in that win early last month. She’s only 4lb higher and has scope for further improvement. Latent Heat may have needed the run over C&D last month and the handicapper looks to have handed him an opportunity by easing him 5lb in the ratings; he’s not without a chance.
Tip: Voice Of Calm
