IT was a case of New Year but same old story as I hit the bar – or even VAR – on my two goals trebles.
Spurs, who had a Harry Kane effort confirmed marginally offside by VAR, beat my Premier League goals treble and Oxford failing to net downed my Football League btts treble.
I’ve lost count the number of times one goal has beaten my goals treble in recent weeks so maybe I should do more doubles. Spurs not scoring was particularly sore and Jose Mourinho has a job on his hands.
With Burnley losing early it meant 5pts chucked away on New Year’s Day but overall results were pretty tough with loads of favourites failing to win.
Well done to any winners but most punters understand this is a tough time of the year for football betting and know to keep stakes low,
On Thursday it’s much quieter with just three games to look at – Liverpool v Sheffield Utd in the Premier League as well as Derby v Barnsley and Swansea v Charlton in the Championship.
Liverpool should beat the Blades as they continue their relentless charge to the title but it could be an awkward game. United’s only away defeat came recently at Man City on Sunday and they had chances so Liverpool and while both to score is a possibility although Jurgen Klopp’s man have kept three clean sheets in a row including the Club World Cup Final.
All eyes will be on Wayne Rooney as he gets set to make his debut for a Derby side who ended a run of seven without victory by beating Charlton on Monday.
One of the most popular bets of the day could be Rooney to score first at 11-2 with Betway while he is 19-10 at Betway to net at any time.
Derby will be desperate to win but Barnsley are unbeaten in five and there should be goals. The last three meetings at Pride Park have saw both score and before last week’s 0-0 draw at Swansea the previous five featuring Barnsley had brought up this market.
Swansea should beat Charlton but again goals could be the safer bet with Charlton’s last four averaging four a game with all seeing both scoring.
Considering almost anything can happen with games coming thick and fast I’m happy to risk 2pts on a both to score double in the Championship.
If you want add the Liverpool game for a 5-1 treble but I’m not convinced.
2pts Both to Score Double
- Derby v Barnsley (7.45pm)
- Swansea v Charlton (7.45pm)
- (2-1, William Hill)
January Super Single Stats: -2pts
