IT’S matchday six of the Champions League and Liverpool and Chelsea are among those teams aiming to book their last-16 place on Tuesday.
Both should manage to get there although Liverpool face what could be a banana skin away to goal-hungry Red Bull Salzburg.
Jurgen Klopp has the nous to get the holders over the line and best bet should be goals following the 4-3 thriller they fought out at Anfield. Remember the Liverpool and Napoli games are early at 5.55pm.
Chelsea must beat Lille at home to make sure and that should be manageable for Frank Lampard’s men. I’ve posted a Champions League preview covering these games and a couple of others and will add to it in the morning.
There are loads of individual match previews on the site so check them out.
Away from the Champions League there are four FA Cup replays, six matches in the Championship and three in the Scottish leagues.
I’ll consider these more carefully in the morning with my RFO and bottle of the new Irn-Bru but at first glance best bets are Stoke at home to Luton and Fulham at freefalling Preston.
North of the border Championship leaders Dundee United should win at Morton who conceded one of the craziest goals I’ve seen in their weekend defeat at Dunfermline – basically the centre-half smashed the ball out of his keeper’s hands to leave the Pars’ Greg Kiltie with a tap-in. You have to see it to believe it.
Defending like that will cost them dear against a United side who don’t always travel well but have Scotland cap Lawrence Shankland ready to make his comeback from injury.
Ayr have fallen 12 points behind United but are clinging on to the final play-off spot. Arbroath are the visitors to Somerset and this should be a tight home win maybe with both scoring.
Interestingly Ayr haven’t drawn a single game out of 15 in the league while Arbroath have drawn none on the road. Home or away on the double chance is short at 2-7 with William Hill.
Last night my only bet was West Ham draw no bet and it looked great at half-time – it could have been covered but I wasn’t around to advise.
But out of nowhere the Gunners hit back with three goals in eight minutes and having watched the first half that was a real surprise.
Well done to any winners – I’m nit sure how things went as I was out on the lash all day.
