IT was one of those typical Saturdays with enough shock results to upset most accumulators.
Well done to any winners and there were definitely fewer than usual thanks to the like of Everton, Leeds, Sunderland and Motherwell. Greg stands out with two out of three and maccathered as usual went goals crazy with Man City v Watford his target.
I quite liked the card and looking at my shortlist there are plenty of winners on it but from good picks I picked the wrong ones if that makes sense.
After finishing around 60 points up last month I’m now 21 points down for August and I’ll be striving to wipe that out over the next week or so.
Sunday’s card looks fairly decent with seven top-flight games in Scotland and England. In Scotland Hibs v Hearts could be an ugly encounter with both sides struggling and the Edinburgh managers are both fighting for their jobs.
I can’t call it – a draw is possible – as is a red card in the match at 14-5 with bet365.
Celtic and Rangers are in action after tough Europa League matches on Thursday and I don’t expect fireworks. Celtic can win to nil against a Killie side who have netted just four goals in five Premiership games.
Rangers played well to beat Feyenoord and expanded plenty if energy so Steven Gerrard will make changes for the trip to St Johnstone. It would be a surprise if they dropped anything but lower levels of performance can take place after European games so possibly a one-goal Gers win is the call.
Big game in the Premier League is Chelsea v Liverpool and I fancy an away win despite both slipping up in the Champions League in midweek. Chelsea are still to keep a clean sheet this season and that’s a worry against a side boasting such a powerful frontline.
Arsenal should see off Aston Villa at home with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on target and Crystal Palace may be the latest side to see off Wolves whose league form is suffering due to their Europa League participation. West Ham will fancy their chances of taking something from Man United at home.
In Europe there are some crackers including Bologna v Roma, Lyon v PSG and Sevilla v Real Madrid.
Sevilla will return to the top of the table ahead of a Granada side that stunned Barcelona on Saturday if they don’t lose at home to Real Madrid. They’ve beaten them four in a row in front of their own fans and the last seven here have gone over 2.5 goals too. Real were poos in losing 3-0 at PSG in midweek and while I fancy Sevilla to win I’m going Sevilla +1 on the treble.
Valencia won at Chelsea on Thursday and should follow up by beating basement boys Leganes at home. Valencia are unbeaten at their ground while Leganes haven’t scored in three away trips this season.
Angers have a 100 per cent home record and will be looking to make it four out of four when St Etienne visit. Again I fancy the home but taking Angers draw no bet.
For goals I’m starting with an 11.15am kick-off as Heerenveen entertain Utrecht. Eight meetings in a row have gone over 3.5 goals and in seven out of eight both have scored.
Add both to score at Bologna v Roma. Bologna are motoring as they try their best for boss Sinisa Mihajlovic who is receiving treatment for cancer and face a Roma side scoring goals for fun but who have conceded in every league game.
Complete the treble with Borussia M’gladbach v Fortuna Dusseldorf. Fortuna’s last six matches have brought up btts and this should be seven in a row.
I’ve picked out a Top Treble and a goals treble and backing Liverpool as the Super Single.
