VIRGIL VAN DIJK this week won the PFA Player of the Year award and he’ll need to be at his best tonight.
Liverpool head to Barcelona as Champions League underdogs but full of belief and much of that confidence comes from van Dijk’s ability to shut up shop and won’t fear the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
I’ve got my thoughts on the game and check out kevinmac’s Barcelona v Liverpool preview here.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have conceded just 20 Premier League goals and no longer need to score three or four to win games.
While Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will try to give their hosts nightmare van Dijk could be the key man.
However, it’s still likely to be Liverpool’s toughest test of the season against a side that’s lost one in 82 at the Nou Camp. Barca are massive favourites at 8-11 with Betfred to qualify and 10-11 at bet365 to win tonight.
Liverpool are as big as 10-3 at Betfred to notch an away triumph and 6-5 at BetVictor to make their second final in a row. I’m backing a draw at 14-5 with bet365 and Ladbrokes and that would be fine for Klopp.
Away goals have been crucial in the KO stages and Liverpool should at least hit the target. They are 2-5 just to score and 13-8 with Betway for two or more. Barca almost always hit the target so back both to score at 8-13 with Marathonbet.
Mane has four goals in four games and has been outperforming Salah – back him to score at a nice price of 5-2 with Paddy Power and that could have been a Super Single.
While Suarez will be keen net against his former side Messi is the man to fear and is 10-11 at Unibet.
Elsewhere on Wednesday there’s a cracking game in the Championship as Swansea entertain Derby. The Rams have enjoyed a rollercoaster season but victory will all but seal their play-off place.
Even a draw would be OK with West Brom at home in their final game and a point against a decent Swans side is what they may have to settle for although I’m going to tip both to score.
Both sides have lost one in six and netted 13 in those matches and Swansea have 15 in five home games so btts looks nailed on at 1-2. Scotland striker Oli McBurnie has banged in five in three games and 6-4 at Unibet to net.
There are English National League play-offs but I’ll leave others who know more about those games to call those.
French Cup winners Rennes v relegation-threatened Monaco usually produces goals and I could have added that to Swansea v Derby but instead I’m taking Barcelona v Liverpool for a double.
On Tuesday my final acca of the month won thanks to over 2.5 goals at Montpellier and Portsmouth although I lost 1pt for a cover plus bet when Pompey trailed 2-0. That means my profit for the month is 46.8 points and I’m happy with that.
I tipped Ajax to qualify for the Champions League Final and they’re well on course after winning at Spurs in what wasn’t a classic.
My Super Singles effort wasn’t as good over the month and was beaten by Portsmouth surprisingly losing at home to Peterborough and Sunderland’s defeat at Fleetwood confirmed promotion for Luton and Barnsley.
In League Bury’s point at Tranmere clinched promotion to the delight of Hullshaker and others on the site who have become secret Shakers!
