THERE have been some shock results this week and none more so than Real Madrid’s thrilling defeat at home to Real Sociedad in the Spanish Cup.
Knockout games can surprise but on form and with the strength of line-up the home men put out it was a stunner – especially as they trailed 3-0 at one stage before battling back to go down 4-3.
It looked a game of goals so well done to any winners – I backed Real and goals as a Super Single so that was a loser.
Barcelona were also shocked later 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao and at least I identified it as an unders game. That leaves a last four of Sociedad, Bilbao, Valencia and Mirandes.
On Friday we have two games in England – Bristol City v Birmingham and Lincoln v Rotherham – while the biggest games of the night at Roma v Bologna and Eintracht Frankfurt v Augsburg.
Greg will be on Ligue 2 goals as usual and there are also Dutch second-tier matches to look at.
As usual my focus is on Saturday – and I’ve posted a Super Single shortlist – but I’ll be aiming to have a double or treble from Friday’s matches with the Robins likely to feature.
Bristol City are on a cracking run while Birmingham were forced to go to penalties to beat Coventry in Wednesday’s FA Cup replay and could be a bit leggy.
