More Misery for Managerless Owls

29/12/2020 admin

There is a busy festive programme taking place in the Championship on Tuesday and playoff-chasing Middlesbrough can take advantage of managerless Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

That is one of nine matches taking place in the second-tier on Tuesday, with movement expected at both ends of the table.

Boro to Profit From Beleaguered Owls

Sheffield Wednesday parted ways with boss Tony Pulis earlier this week after less than two months in charge, with the 62-year-old winning just one of his 10 games at the helm.

That sole victory did come in Wednesday’s last home fixture against Coventry, but that is one of just two wins they have mustered on their own patch this term.

First-team coach Neil Thompson will take charge of the Owls against Boro, with the visitors enjoying a contrasting season, as a run of three-successive victories has seen them move to the cusp of the playoff places.

Neil Warnock’s side have also won on each of their last four visits to Hillsborough and they seem well priced at 23/20 to extend that run on Tuesday.

League Leaders to Bounce Back on Home Soil

Table-topping Norwich saw their five-match winning run brought to an end following their 1-0 defeat at Watford on Boxing Day, but the Canaries should have no problem in bouncing back on home soil against an out of sorts Queens Park Rangers.

Daniel Farke’s side are on an eight-match unbeaten run at Carrow Road and have only lost once on their own patch all season, while they have triumphed in each of their last three home meetings with QPR by an aggregate score of 10-0.

QPR, for their part, are second-bottom of the Championship form table after taking just three points from their last eight games, while they have only won once on the road this season.

Norwich certainly look a sure bet to triumph in this one and backing the Canaries to win to zero at 8/5 is one way to add more value.

Barnsley to Take South Yorkshire Spoils

Barnsley have certainly taken to life under Valerien Ismael, as they have won nine of their 14 matches since the Frenchman took charge in October, a run that has seen them rise into the top-10 of the standings.

The Tykes will fancy their chances of continuing their upward trend when they visit South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham on Tuesday, as the Millers sit just a place above the relegation zone after picking up just one win and one draw from their last eight games.

An away victory can be backed at 21/20 and history certainly suggests Barnsley can claim the spoils, as they have won each of their last two competitive visits to the New York Stadium.
