Whilst England end their qualification campaign with a dead rubber in North Macedonia it’s all to play for in Leverkusen where it’s (almost) winner takes all for Ukraine and Italy in Group C.
A draw would be good enough for the Azzurri thanks to their 2-1 win over Ukraine in Milan which keeps them on top of tonight’s opponents on the head-to-head.
A 5-2 win over North Macedonia on Friday was the ideal way for Luciano Spalletti’s side to set-up tonight’s clash but the nerves were evident when a 3-goal lead was reduced to one before two Italian goals in the last ten minutes put some gloss on the result.
The Italians can also qualify via the Nations League play-offs but for Ukraine it’s last chance saloon, there is no safety net, and they know only a win will do but they shouldn’t be written off at 16/5.
To still be in the hunt for qualification, in a group that includes the Three Lions and current European Champions Italy, all the while playing games in neutral venues in Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic and now Germany is remarkable against the backdrop of the country being at war.
Italy’s recent qualification hasn’t been great either, reaching just one of the last three major tournaments so it could be another nervy one.
A good way to attack this one is to back Ukraine or Draw in the Double Chance market at 1/1 – that way you’ve got Ukraine covered as well as a result that would suit Italy.
But for San Marino, Northern Ireland would be rock bottom of Group H and pointless. A 4-0 defeat in Finland underlined a hapless campaign and it’s now just eight wins in 36 this decade – those wins coming against the aforementioned San Marino x2 , Kosovo, Luxembourg, Lithuania x2, Estonia and Malta. Therefore the Norn Iron fans shouldn’t hold out too much hope of victory against group winners Denmark.
The Danes should really be shorter than 3/5 based on the two nations’ current form so it’s a case of trying to find some value on the visitors.
A Danish win with two match goals pays 21/20 (slightly better than the even money on a Denmark win and two Denmark goals) or it’s 6/5 on a half-time lead for Denmark.
Alternatively double them up with Albania who are already assured of a place in Germany next year but can boost their seeding by finishing top of the group with a win over the Faroe Islands who have managed just one point so far in Group E.
