We already know three of the four Scottish Cup semi-finalists and tonight either Dundee United or Celtic will join Hearts, Hibs and Rangers in the draw.
Celtic have won the old trophy 10 times this century and it could be the final piece of the jigsaw in a debut season treble for Ange Postecoglou but there’s a lot of football to be played between now and then – Starting with a tricky tie at Tannadice tonight.
Dundee Utd have proven awkward opponents for the Hoops this season. They claimed a point at Celtic Park earlier in the season before losing there to an injury-time Leil Abada goal in January. Sandwiched in between was a comfortable 3-0 win for Celtic on Tayside.
United are 9/1 to cause an upset while Celtic ar 1/4 to get the job done inside 90 minutes.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record it would a dereliction of duty not to look at Celtic corners once more. We’ve been all over them this season as they’ve continued to confound the bookies odds and rack up corner after corner. First half corners have been popular and Bet365 go 20/21 on Over 3.5 for Celtic. They’re averaging 4.60 first half corners per match in the league and punters have cashed in plenty of times on this bet already this season.
Celtic are 21/20 on the Asian Corner line at -4. That might be a bit ambitious in what should be a competitive tie but Celtic have won the corner count comprehensively in their three meetings with United this season, 14-2, 12-1 and 9-2.
In the Premier League Man City (3/10 Bet365) must win tonight to re-establish their six point lead over Liverpool. A trip to Selhurst Park beckons and Crystal Palace (10/1) are aiming to complete the double over City this season following a 1-0 at the Etihad earlier in the season.
Palace’s only defeats this year have been to West Ham (6th), Liverpool (2nd) and Chelsea (3rd) so come into the game in good shape off the back of just one defeat in eight.
Martin Atkinson is the man in the middle tonight and he’s the most lenient ref in the Premier League this season (with the exception of Tony Harrington who only officated one match). In his 18 games he’s brandished 39 yellows and 2 reds so is averaging just over 2 cards per game.
He’s shown under 2.5 cards in 11 of those 18 and the last time he oversaw this fixture, in 2019, he failed to book any players. Man City have the joint lowest card count in the league at 1.21 per game and Palace aren’t far behind on 1.75.
All in all Under 2.5 cards 5/6 looks a good bet based on the stats.
Well done to The Caddy who unearthed yet another Matchbet NAP win for us on the DP World Tour. The weather-hit Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is expected to conclude on Monday with Russel Henley our best hope.
