Czech Republic produced the biggest upset of the knock-out stages on Sunday and fellow Group D side Croatia will be aiming to emulate their win over Netherlands when they clash with Spain on Monday.
The Czech’s took full advantage of Matthijs de Ligt’s red card to deservedly win 2-0 and set up a quarter-final tie with Denmark.
The Croatia v Spain match has a similar feel to that Netherlands-Czech tie, with the Spanish at a short odds to win but looking vulnerable at the price.
The Spanish failed to set the heather on fire in Group E, aside from a 5-0 win over an abject Slovakia in the final match and look too short at 4/7. Croatia, ranked 14th in the world and World Cup runners-up just three years ago can’t be written off despite being as big as 6/1 (Sportingbet).
It’ll be Spain’s first match in the tournament away from Seville, so neutral Copenhagen will be a tick in the Croatia column when weighing up the match. With the draw on side it’s 5/4 Croatia in the Double Chance market which appeals.
For context, Switzerland are the same best price (6/1) to beat France and while you can make a case for Croatia to spring a surprise on Spain it’s much more difficult to do the same for the Swiss.
Vladimir Petković’s side sneaked through as the third-best fourth-placed team, their best result and performance coming against Turkey who had a horrible, pointless tournament. Finishing above the Swiss in Group A were Wales, who’s 4-0 defeat to Denmark didn’t do “the form” many favours.
France haven’t quite hit the heights they’re capable of yet but if they do on Monday it could be a long night for Switzerland. Didier Deschamp’s side’s draw with Hungary was a little wake-up call but anything other than a French win would be a huge surprise here.
Not particularly appealling at 9/20 but a French win plus them scoring 2 or more pays 21/20 on a bet365 Betbuilder.
