With relegation to the second tier of the Nations League confirmed, Gareth Southgate has asked for his side to show some resilience tonight when Germany visit Wembley.
Both nations have had campaigns to forget. The Germans were still in with a shout of top spot until they fell to defeat at the hands of surprise-package Hungary on Friday night whilst England’s defeat in Italy made it five without a win for Southgate’s men.
Matches between these two sides are seldom meaningless and even though there’s little at stake in terms of the Nations League both sides will be keen to sign-off with a win before their squads reassemble for the World Cup.
This will be England’s last match before their Qatari adventure begins in 56 days time against Iran, so there’s plenty to play for for those vying for a place in the finals squad.
Goalscoring has been a problem for the English and it’s now over eight hours since they scored a goal from open play. That can’t continue for much longer and nothing motivates the Three Lions like the chance to put one over the Germans. This feels like a match that could go either way and betting on the outcome is probably best left alone.

The outcome of Group A3 hangs in the balance and will be decided in Budapest where Italy visit leaders Hungary. The Mighty Magyars have had a superb campaign after being promoted from Group B last time round and are just 90 minutes away from reaching the finals. A draw will be enough but the Italians will have added motivation to qualify since they’ve failed to make it to the World Cup for second successive time.
Given how Hungary have performed so far it’s hard to write them off but European champions, Italy, look a fair price at even money with SBK to get the win they need.
