Our tipster has selections to steer you through Sunday’s action at Market Rasen.
13:10 – MansionBet Watch And Bet Mares’ Maiden Hurdle (2m½f)
Both Subway Surf and Yauthym can be given claims, while Bryony Frost can likely rise a challenge from Sorbet in refitted cheekpieces but LADY TREMAINE looks a solid contender for Brian Hughes after her Newcastle second five weeks ago. She looked to be coming with a winning challenge there but the game front-runner Robin Des Theatre fought back to score narrowly (and has run well since). Lady Tremaine should be fitter following that run and can improve on it to open her account.
Selection: Lady Tremaine @ SP
13.40 – MansionBet MoreThanTheNational Bet 10 Get 20 Maiden Hurdle (2m4½f)
Royal Pretender sets the standard on ratings but Alan King’s charge has been a bit underwhelming in hurdles starts at Doncaster and Ludlow this year, either side of a jumpers’ bumper win at Kempton. Back in a maiden, he’s got claims but Head On and Flexi Furlough could be possible improvers, as could FITZROY for in-form trainer Olly Murphy. He produced a good second at Taunton in November and likely has avoided the harsh winter ground since. Aidan Coleman is booked and has more winners here in the last five years than any of those in the weighing room with him today – while he’s also in red-hot recent form lately (30 per-cent strike-rate from 56 rides).
Selection: Fitzroy @ SP
14.10 – MansionBet MoreThanTheNational Faller Insurance Handicap Hurdle (2m4½f)
A return to form could be in the offing for the mare Diamond Rose and she’s certainly one to consider at a decent price with generous each-way terms if the eight remain, but Uttoxeter winner Fletch and UNIVERSAL FOLLY are leading contenders. The former cost €250,000 and represents that in-form Olly Murphy/Aidan Coleman team, ensuring he’s not passed over easily, but Nicky Richards’ charge has a strong claim too. He had a couple of close calls in the autumn after going hurdling, finishing second at Kelso (2m, good) and again at Musselburgh on h’cap debut upped to this distance. Another that has likely waited out for decent ground, he should go well from an unchanged mark with Brian Hughes up again.
Selection: Universal Folly @ SP
14.40 – MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase (2m1f)
A January wind operation has brought about improvement from French import GOUET DES BRUYERES and he delivered at Wetherby in midweek in good style for the Oliver Greenall team. He’s turned out again quickly under a 7lb penalty and can likely double his tally. Good ground is in his favour, while the same cannot be said for sure about heavy-ground Leicester winner Lickpenny Larry. Armattiekan is one with scope for better and cannot be discounted.
Selection: Gouet Des Bruyeres @ SP
15.10 – MansionBet MoreThanTheNational Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (2m5½f)
Bootlegger scored at the second time of asking over fences at Doncaster last month and should have a leading say in the five-runner feature contest, while Fraternel has seen the form of his Hereford win five days before that advertised by the runner-up scoring since. Both are players but EQUUS DANCER is preferred at better odds. He looked quite smart when landing a pair of wins at Sedgefield in November and hasn’t been able to really show his best or progress on testing ground since. The handicapper has cut him some slack and this surface may well see Peter Bowen’s charge bouncing back.
Selection: Equus Dancer @ SP
15.40 – MansionBet Live Casino Cashback Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase (3m)
FIRST CLASS RETURN has dismissed his rivals with some abandon in recording a couple of quick wins at Southwell over this sort of trip recently, boasting a combined tally of 37-lengths to spare in those wins. He’s turned out four days on from the most recent of them and Luke Scott’s claim offsets the penalty he carries in this Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase. A clear round can see him record another success for his in-form trainer.
Selection: First Class Return @ SP
16.15 – Racing TV Standard Open NH Flat Race (2m½f)
Just five contesting the finale and Sauce Of Life must carry a penalty for his Musselburgh success in December. It wasn’t the strongest of contests but he might be capable of improving nicely and market confidence would be noted. He gives a stone to Diva’s Mix and Nicky Henderson’s mare has prospects if James Bowen can get her settled early on but maybe newcomer TIGERBYTHETAIL can trump both. The son of Yeats cost £105,000 and represents that Olly Murphy/Aidan Coleman alliance enjoying such a fine time lately. He’s perhaps been found a nice opportunity here.
Selection: Tigerbythetail @ SP
