Scottish football expert Mark Walker gives us his insight in to this weekend’s best bets in Scotland.
Dundee v Motherwell
MOTHERWELL have won their last two games away to Aberdeen and at home to Hearts and yet are 15/8 to win at struggling Dundee to make it three-in-a-row.
Graham Alexander’s side appears to be back on track after a sticky patch. However, during that spell the former Scotland international insisted he was happy with the way his side were playing and results would come.
He’s been proved right with really good wins against the Dons and high-flying Hearts and they face a side they have already beaten at Fir Park.
Well will travel to Dens Park with little fear, especially against a Dundee side who can have serious off days. They’ve won just twice in the league all season and will be anxiously looking over their shoulder at the improving Ross County.
With Kevin van Veen and Tony Watt in the team, Motherwell have a real goal threat and they can prove too strong for Dundee at a big price.
Cove Rangers v Queen of the South
Scottish Cup third round week is traditionally a bonanza for punters with gambles galore usually involving unheralded clubs.
But there should be something of a shock on the cards in terms of leagues anyway when COVE RANGERS entertain Queen of the South in Aberdeen.
Even though it’s League One v Championship, it’s big-spending Cove who are 13/10 favourites and justifiably so.
Cove actually had something of an inconsistent start to the season, but they’re motoring now. They’ve lost just once since August and that was a surprise setback at East Fife.
They are particularly strong at their Balmoral Stadium home and will fancy their chances against the Dumfries side, who they could very well be passing at the end of the season.
Allan Johnston’s side are in trouble after seven games in a row without a win. Apart from a thumping at Kilmarnock, they rarely get hammered, but they have a bad habit of losing and a Cove side packed full of experienced former top flight players, can dump the Doonhammers at 13/10.
Stenhousemuir v Airdrie
AIRDRIE can win at a Stenhousemuir side who appear to be struggling with illness and injuries.
The Diamonds were beaten by Cove Rangers last week, but had previously won five out of their last seven games in League One.
Stenny had a revival after an awful spell, but Ian Murray’s men should have too much for the League Two men.
