Scottish football expert Mark Walker picks out his best three bets from the lower league action this weekend.
Airdrie v Dumbarton
AIRDRIE look bankers on coupons to carry on their recent excellent form and beat Dumbarton at home.
Ian Murray’s side have looked increasingly like they could muscle into the promotion race in League One recently after a sluggish start to the league.
They romped to a 3-0 win at one of the pre0season title favourites Falkirk last week away from home and have won four of their last five games, with the only exception being a defeat at high-flying Cove Rangers.
The Diamonds’ squad are packed with experienced players at this level and in-form Callum Gallagher has now netted four goals in his last five games.
In contrast, Dumbarton have struggled recently after a decent start and were thumped by Peterhead and Queen’s Park in their last two games without scoring a goal.
There’s an argument Airdrie should be shorter than 10/11 and they should get the job done.
Queen of the South v Morton
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH can pile on the misery for Morton in Dumfries.
Since the end of March, Morton have won one single actial league game and yet they are still not bottom of the Championship.
They’ve picked up two points from their last seven league games and clearly face an uphill struggle to stay in the league, as they did last season via the play-offs.
South are no great shakes either, but they have won their last two home games against Dunfermline and Partick Thistle in the league and the Challenge Cup and threw away a lead last week at Ayr United.
Lee Connelly has scored six goals in his last seven games and can help shoot down the Greenock side at Palmerston Park with the hosts 23/20.
Peterhead v Falkirk
PETERHEAD look a big price to beat Falkirk at home in League One.
Anyone who witnessed the Bairns’ fans’ meeting this week will know they are not exactly running a happy ship at the moment.
And that’s transferred to the pitch too with one win in seven in all competitions…and that was at home to East Fife.
They concede far too many goals and the Blue Toon are in decent form with two wins from their last two games where they hammered Dumbarton and won at Alloa.
No one gets an easy game at Balmoor Stadium anyway and it’s probably the last place Paul Sheerin’s low-in-confidence men will fancy visiting, with the 12/5 for the hosts looking a steal.
Recommended Bets
- Airdrie 10/11
- Queen of the South 23/20
- Peterhead 12/5
