Mark Walker offers up his best bets in the SPFL and Betfred Cup this weekend.
Rangers v Ross County
It’s a matter of when not if Rangers win their first title for ten years, but there could be value in backing ROSS COUNTY in the handicaps market tomorrow.
Steven Gerrard’s men have shown remarkable consistency this season and they could even afford to drop two rare points last week at Motherwell, which made zero difference.
However, while there’s no doubting why Rangers are as short as 1/8 to win, a price of 4/5 for the Dingwall side with a three-goal start is very tempting indeed.
County have got their boiler suits on, as new boss John Hughes would say and appear to have rolled up their sleeves for their demanding new manager.
He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but last week’s 4-1 win over Aberdeen showed he’s got things moving in the right direction in the Highlands.
Rangers have been slowing down somewhat comparatively at least and haven’t scored three goals for their last five games.
And County should have enough to cover the three-goal handicap and even the 2/1 for a two-goal start is tempting.
Arbroath v Dundee
DUNDEE were disappointed with a very late postponement last week, but they can take advantage of generous odds of evens to win at Arbroath tonight.
Dick Campbell’s side have struggled this season and find themselves bottom of the Championship, where they’ve only won once all season.
While no one gets an easy game at Gayfield, they haven’t used their windswept home to their advantage as much this season with the likes of Alloa and Dunfermline winning there already.
James McPake’s side will be looking to push on in the league and if they are in any way serious about mounting a challenge to Hearts, these are must-win games.
Livingston v St Mirren
ST MIRREN look hugely overpriced for their League Cup semi-final against Livingston at Hampden.
David Martindale’s side have of course remained unbeaten since he took charge – an impressive run that has stretched to ten games.
But while that merits respect, should they really be odds-on for a semi-final at neutral Hampden?
Saints haven’t been firing in all cylinders recently, but they have plenty of firepower in a decent-looking squad assembled by Jim Goodwin.
On their day, they can beat anyone as Rangers can testify to. They’ve beaten Livi 1-0 twice already this season and they are begging to be backed at an enticing 3/1.
Recommendations
- Ross County +3 4/5 (McBookie)
- Dundee Evens (McBookie)
- St Mirren 3/1 (McBookie)
