ST JOHNSTONE can add to the gloom and doom surrounding a freefalling St Mirren side by dragging them right into a relegation dogfight with a win in Perth.
Callum Davidson’s side started atrociously at Dundee last week and were lucky to only be a goal down, but they got a grip and could and should have gone on to win it.
They are five points ahead of Dundee at the bottom. However, they have undoubtedly set their sights on catching the teams above them – St Mirren and Aberdeen – and they could hardly pick a better time to play the Buddies.
Stephen Robinson’s appointment just hasn’t clicked so far and his men are on a desperate run of eight defeats and one win in their last nine games.
Perhaps, if they had managed to eke out a point or two in that run, they wouldn’t be finding themselves in such dire straights, but confidence must be very low in Paisley.
St Johnstone have lost just one of their last six home games and that was to Rangers. They’ve defeated Motherwell and Livingston in their last two games at McDiarmid Park with the league table pointing to the fact they are both better than St Mirren.
And they can get the job done at 6/4.
The season is ending at the wrong time for ALLOA ATHLETIC and they finish in style by beating a Montrose side who will have one eye on the first leg of the play-off final first leg against Airdrie on Tuesday.
Montrose will finish third in League One and face the Diamonds in the two-legged play-off. They are already short of defensive cover and won’t want to risk any more injuries in a dead rubber game as they attempt to get into the Championship.
Alloa won at Falkirk last week and could go above the Bairns if results go their way on Saturday. Brian Rice appears to have got a tune out of them and they look great value at 9/5, which has already been cut.
In a programme full of dead rubbers, STRANRAER can end their season with a win at evens against an Elgin City side who must fancy the enormous journey like a hole in the head.
Both sides have nothing to play for but the hosts had a couple of thumping wins recently at Albion Rovers and Stenhousemuir, while Elgin have not won away at anyone except from Stirling since September and were hammered 4-1 at home by League Two bottom dogs Cowdenbeath.
