The DP World Tour is back this week with the Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club, Nairobi, Kenya.
The 156 field with the top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the $2M prize purse with the winner collecting the Magical Kenya Open title and a winner’s cheque for $333,400.
Ashun Wu returns to defend the title he won here last year. His winning scorecard read 268,-16.
Muthaiga Golf Club will be playing 7,228 yards long this week, it’s a par 71 parkland layout where the key to success will require accuracy and precision, especially off the tee.
I’ve already posted my preview for the big event of the week where another star-studded field tees off for the PGA Tour’s flagship event, The Players Championship at the iconic TPC Sawgrass so be sure to have a look on the MFT website or on Twitter @TheCaddy18 if you have the time. It’s all set up to be a cracker for all of us golfing enthusiasts.
The weather in Nairobi is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout with some showers on Sunday. Breezes will peak at around 18mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 10 am on Thursday morning.
Marcus Kinhult 35/1 EW 1-7 places Ladbrokes
For my first and main selection to win the Magical Kenya Open, I’m going to single out Marcus Kinhult 35/1 EW 1-7 places Ladbrokes. The 26-year-old from Sweden has three Top 20 finishes this year alone with two of those being inside the Top 10.
However only one of these was on the DP World Tour when finishing 8th at the Dubai Desert Classic while the others were in the Nordic Golf League.
The Swede put in a good effort on this track last year finishing in 8th place and having already won an event on the DP World Tour when bagging his maiden and only title to date in 2019 at the Betfred British Masters, now’s as good a time as any for Marcus Kinhult to double up in a without being disrespectful much weaker field.
Connor Syme 50/1EW 1-7 places PaddyPower
For my next best betting tip in Nairobi, I’m going to recommend Connor Syme 50/1EW 1-7 places PaddyPower.
The 26-year-old Scotsman from Kirkcaldy hasn’t missed a cut in five attempts this year but it’s all been mid-pack stuff with his best finish being 28th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The young Scot had a steady season last year finishing runner-up at the Cazoo Open and ISPS Handa World Invitational.
He was T3rd at the British Masters and also finished the year with a very respectable 12th at the DP World Tour Championship.
Still yet to win on the DP World Tour, this could be the time for Connor Syme to show the world he has the potential to win titles when he bags his maiden victory this weekend with hopefully many more to follow.
Ashun Wu 33/1 EW 1-6 places Unibet
For my final outright selection, I’m going to advise the defending champion, Ashun Wu 33/1 EW 1-6 places Unibet. The 37-year-old from China arrives in Nairobi with bags of experience and course management won’t be a problem having won this event in a canter last year by four shots over the chasing pack.
He is another who has played five events on the DP World Tour this year without missing a cut with three of those being Top 20 finishes .20th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the 20th at the Dubai Desert Classic and 12th at the Singapore Classic.
With four DP World Tour titles already in the bag and having played on both the DP World and PGA Tours, as mentioned above, he has more winning experience than most in this field. Ashun Wu could easily arrive at Muthaiga Golf Club with the same detailed map from last year’s winning effort and use it to successfully negotiate his way around here again this time around.
The winning formula could already be mapped out for Ashun Wu to successfully defend his title and again he could be the one they all have to beat this week in Nairobi.
All that’s left now is the match bet and for this week’s Nap I’m going to suggest Ashun Wu again but this time to beat Adrian Otaegui over 72 holes at Evens with Bet365.
