There are four La Liga games taking place on Wednesday evening, but much of the attention will be on the two Madrid clubs with Atletico travelling to Huesca while Real play host to Real Valladolid.
In the other two matches this evening, Villarreal welcome Alaves to the Estadio de la Ceramica for a 18:00 KO while Eibar and Elche go head-to-head at 20:00 at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium.
However, it is the two Madrid rivals that will garner most of the attention and it is Atletico that are first up on Wednesday evening, as they make the trip to the Estadio El Alcoraz for a 18:00 KO.
Atletico to Keep Momentum Going
Los Rojiblancos may have only kicked off their quest for La Liga glory on Sunday, but they started like a house on fire, smashing six goals past previously unbeaten Granada in a 6-1 home triumph.
Uruguay international Luis Suarez, who recently made the switch from Barcelona, climbed off the bench in the second half to score two goals and register one assist on his debut.
Diego Simeone already looks to have done a shrewd piece of business by snapping up the 33-year-old and the summer signing is 11/10 to find the back of the net anytime against Huesca.
Huesca’s Struggles to Continue
It has been a less than spectacular start to the campaign for Huesca, who have recorded 1-1 draws against Villarreal and Valencia either side of a 2-0 home defeat to Cadiz.
Head coach Míchel will be pleased with the efforts in those draws, but he will know a big improvement will be required if his side is going to get anything against an opposition that are expected to challenge for major honours.
Atletico have won the last two meetings 3-0 and backing the visitors to win to nil at 6/5 looks a tempting option, given the fact Simeone’s side boasted the second-best defensive record last season.
Los Blancos to Put in Stronger Showing
There is always an extra degree of pressure when it comes to defending a league crown and although undefeated from their first two matches, Real Madrid have yet to really hit their straps.
A 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad in the season opener was then followed by a narrow 3-2 victory at Real Betis and Zinedine Zidane doesn’t appear to be getting the best out of his squad right now.
Saying that, Los Blancos should have enough quality in their ranks to get the better of a Valladolid side that have failed to beat the reigning champions in the last 11 meetings and the hosts are 1/5 to claim the spoils.
Ramos Maintains Goal Threat
When it comes to goal-scoring defenders, Spain international Sergio Ramos is at the very top and he made history during the 3-2 victory against Betis last time out.
The 34-year-old became the third player in La Liga history to score in 17 consecutive seasons when converting a Panenka-style penalty down the middle of the goal.
Ramos continues to be a major scoring threat for Madrid and, at 5/2, he could be worth a punt in the anytime scorer market.
