Robert MacIntyre was a flopping favourite in the British Masters earlier this month, but the Scottish left-hander tops the betting again for the latest regulation European Tour gathering – the Made in HimmerLand event in Denmark.
MacIntyre is 11/1 market leader despite the fact he seemed gutted that HimmerLand was on his schedule when interviewed after the US PGA Championship on Sunday.
The Oban man explained how he was desperate to get home, but that he was going to have to play in the Made in HimmerLand before he could do so.
There must be a chance that his lack of desire for the Denmark trip results in a lacklustre performance, although he had three days between the US PGA and HimmerLand to get his head together, and he was runner-up in the 2019 event.
MacIntyre finished 49th in the US PGA, closing with a round of 73, and a triumphant Phil Mickelson took over as the top left-hander in the world rankings.
Happy Hunting Ground for Wiesberger
The last European Tour event staged at HimmerLand went the way of Bernd Wiesberger, who claimed what was his fifth Tour title.
Wiesberger has since gone on to add the two most prestigious victories of his career – the Scottish Open and Italian Open in 2019.
Those Rolex Series events banked the Austrian giant a fortune, but the hot streak started in Denmark and he will be hoping that the tournament can kickstart his 2021 campaign in a similar fashion.
Formbook students impressed with Wiesberger’s scores at HimmerLand may be tempted by the 18/1 against his name in such a weak field, but a study of his results this year is off-putting.
In his last nine events, Wiesberger has missed three cuts, including at the US PGA. His best finish in those nine spins was 31st place at Bay Hill, while he was eliminated in the group stages of the WGC-Match Play.
Punters who work by the old adage of ‘form is temporary, class is permanent!’ may be backing Wiesberger this week, but he will need a sudden improvement on what he has been producing lately.
Former Champ Suri may Have the Answers
An interesting 66/1 outsider for the Made in HimmerLand is the 2017 champion, Julian Suri.
The American beast did not even have a European Tour card when he turned up in Denmark for the tournament four years ago.
He gained access through winning a Challenge Tour event a couple of months prior – but Suri carded a 19-under-par total on his HimmerLand debut to win by four shots, firing a final-round 64 to destroy the field.
That is Suri’s only appearance at HimmerLand, so he is looking to maintain a 100 per cent record of success at the course this week.
After signs of life in his last two outings – 27th place in the Canary Islands Championship was followed by 21st spot in the British Masters – he seems worth chancing at the odds.
