This Saturday and Sunday we get into the Semifinals of Worlds 2020. The two series will see LCK side DAMWON Gaming take on LEC side G2 Esports. While on Sunday we have an LPL civil war as TOP Esports take on Suning Gaming. Both series are best-of-five, so strap yourself in for a feisty series between four of the best League of Legends sides in the world.
DAMWON Gaming v G2 Esports
Our first semifinals sees the EU take on the LCK once again. G2 has already taken down one LCK side in their quest to make it to the Grand Final and they’ll have one more in their sights in DAMWON Gaming. G2 went on a stomp against Gen.G in the quarterfinals and they’ll need to bring that level of domination if they want to take down the LCK first seed. We have G2 as 2/5 outsiders for the series despite their dominance in the previous series, with the LCK side coming out on top in the odds.
As for DAMWON Gaming, winning the LCK title is enough to see them come in as 37/20 favourites for this series and despite the hype around G2 Esports, DAMWON is well worth a spot in the series. While some of the hype around the LCK has died down in recent years with the LPL picking up back-to-back Worlds titles, the LCK is the most dominant region in LoL history. DAMWON took down fellow LCK side DRX in their quarterfinals and like G2, they did so 3-0. While the LCK side has a much slower style to G2, one which people feel doesn’t actually favour the meta v G2, they’re a side to watch and will be expecting to beat G2.
TOP Esports v Suning Gaming
The battle of the LPL sides sees first seed TOP Esports take on third seed Suning Gaming. TOP Esports had a near-flawless run in their group stage, though a shock loss to FlyQuest certainly put a damper on their party. It looked even worse for them after two games against Fnatic after they went 0-2 down, however, they turned it around in the remaining three games as they looked dominant after. It has, however, removed some of the mystique around the LPL side, though as favourites to win the series, it’s still expected that they’ll beat their fellow LPL brothers.
Suning Gaming came first seed out of a tough group, especially considering their 2-0 on the final day against EU first seed G2 Esports. Suning looked good against JD Gaming in their quarterfinals, despite it being a series they’d been expected to win. Suning go into the game as outsiders against their LPL top seed counterparts, though a potencial Grand Finals takedown of G2 could be on the cards, and it will be a fixture Suning Gaming will want to play out.
