1.00 – BetYourWay At Betway Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (1m5f)
Trainer Olly Murphy reported he’d be expecting a quiet time during January and will likely be content with an 18 per cent strike-rate in recent weeks. This is a month in which Murphy has traditionally fared well and the mare LAURA BULLION could be the one to follow for him in the Lingfield opener. She’s 0-3 over hurdles since joining this yard but has run well in each of those starts and she appears well-handicapped back on the level judged on her form with Noel Meade in Ireland.
Selection: Laura Bullion @ 9/4
1.30 – BetYourWay At Betway Handicap (1m2f)
No Flies On Me was denied her hat-trick over C&D earlier this month in the stewards’ room having flashed past the post in first spot. The pace-setting filly is likely to give her running again here. Helian was only nabbed late at Kempton last time and should be fine down in trip but HE’S OUR STAR deserves a break. He’s been second in seven of his last eight appearances and perhaps luck will change for Tony Carroll’s gelding as he meets this trip for the first time.
Selection: He’s Our Star @ 11/1
2.00 – Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Fillies’ Novice Stakes (7f)
Cheveley Park newcomer Isakova commands a close look in the betting for Clive Cox, while Native Angel makes some appeal on paper for Hugo Palmer. It wasn’t the strongest Newbury contest that FAITHFUL SPIRIT won back in July but the runner-up has most recently won off a mark of 78 and the Cable Bay filly could be capable of better. She looks best-placed of the two Clive Cox runners.
Selection: Faithful Spirit @ 9/4
2.30 – Betway Classified Stakes (6f)
A drop to this grade saw KRAZY PAVING return to winning ways at Chelmsford this month for trainer Olly Murphy and the veteran had plenty to spare in that win. Liam Browne remains on board for this follow-up attempt and can make use of his 7lb on this occasion. They are the form pick if repeating that effort from 11 days ago.
Selection: Krazy Paving @ 7/2
3.00 – Watch Racing Free Online At Coral Maiden Stakes (5f)
Miscall has shown ability in three runs for Archie Watson and just about sets the standard on paper for this maiden, though the Kodiac filly weakened rather tamely over 6f at Wolverhampton from the front last time. She could rebound on this first go at the minimum trip. Dirty Martini went close at Southwell on New Year’s Day on debut and ought to build on that but maybe T MAXIE can do better for George Scott. She moved quite well on debut at Chelmsford over 7f three weeks ago but didn’t find a lot late on. She should have learned from that and coming back in trip appears the way to go.
Selection: T Maxie @ 9/1
3.30 – Mansionbet Proud Partners Of The AWC Handicap
With only four runners, this may get tactical. Darwell Lion has found a slow pace his undoing in recent runs at Wolverhampton and Newcastle and this could play out in favour of DUTCH DECOY. Joe Fanning’s mount scored at Newcastle on penultimate start over 7f and has since finished second back there in a higher grade than this one.
Selection: Dutch Decoy @ 5/4
4.00 – Betway Handicap (6f)
Mobarhin had Deputise (second) and El Hombre (fourth) behind when scoring over C&D earlier in the month and all three are likely players again now. SWISS PRIDE’s run over 7f here four days ago was lamentable but he was never really in a good rhythm/position and Roger Teal’s 6YO is a five-time C&D winner in the past. He’s within 2lb of his last win-mark and is set to be a backable price.
Selection: Swiss Pride @ 8/1
