As we move another week closer to playoffs, the LEC is beginning to take shape. Week 6 sees Rogue and MAD Lions in joint-first with a 3 win lead over third-placed SK Gaming, Origen, and Fnatic. Fnatic had a share 2-0 weekend, after an amazing turnaround against Misfits, Fnatic seems to have found a second wind, when it all looked a little lost for them.
G2 Esports had a rough week of action. Dropping both series against MAD Lions and Origen, the current LEC titleholders have given themselves a tough end to the split. Below them is Excel and Vitality in joint-eighth place, with Schalke still in 10th place and looking like their season is all but over.
Fnatic v MAD Lions
Fnatic playing MAD Lions is one of 3 massive games during week 6. The former LCS Champions, Worlds Season 1 winners and 2018 Finalists, take on MAD Lions. The plucky rookie side from Spain who finds themselves in joins-first place after 6 rounds of matches. Fnatic finally finds themselves in a good position in the table, and with a massive weekend ahead of them, they’ll need to carry that form on. We have them at 7/5 to take the game against MAD Lions.
MAD Lions have been on a tear this split. MAD Lion had another 2-0 week in week 5 with a crucial victory against G2 Esports the jewel in the crown. Fnatic will be a tough game for MAD, however, they come into the series in some crazy form, so could be worth a punt at 8/15. With so few weeks of matches left, crucial victories against side whom will likely be chasing MAD for the top spot.
G2 v Rogue
G2 Esports had a rough return to the LEC. Dropping both series and denting their standing in the league as we head into the playoff period. G2’s week 6 is going to be a tale of two halves of the table; a day one match against last-place Schalke 04 should offer the side an easy win, however, the day after they face first place, Rogue. G2 Esports are favourites in the odds at 7/5, though a poor showing in week 5 could impact the G2 that turns up here. Keep an eye out for the performance against Schalke on Friday as an indicator for how the game against Rogue will play out.
Rogue, like MAD Lions, has been one of the surprise teams this split. Though, with how MAD Lions ended the Spring Split, what Rogue has managed to do in Summer Split might be the bigger surprise. Lead by mid laner Larssen, Rogue has torn up the league, only dropping two matches the entire split. Rogue start the weekend against Misfits, a side that sits firmly in the middle of the pack, but might be looking for a scalp after losing against Fnatic after dominating the game. As we said above, Rogue will need to perform, but we just don’t know what G2 will show up. Rogue can be picked up at 11/10, and given their current form, it might be too good to turn down.
Fnatic v Origen
Normally a game of the week matchup, Fnatic v Origen almost feels like a second thought in week 6. With arguably two more important games before it, the old rivalry might be a side-show. Fnatic looks the more in-form side going into the weekend, and the odds seem to favour them at 4/5. Fnatic faces a tough weekend, so their result against MAD Lions could be an indicator of how they play against Origen.
Origen still looks like a team struggling to settle in the Summer Split. A huge 2-0 weekend on the LEC’s return against Misfits and G2, however, will give the team new-found confidence. Origen made one change coming into the second half of the split, in the form of Support player Jactroll. Origen is only slight outsiders in this series at 20/21, but as with all LEC weekends, keep an eye out for the Friday results to get a real feel for how the two sides look in week 6.
