So, the LEC Summer Split is finally at the end of regular-season play. We end the season the same way we started, with a Superweek. One thing we know for sure is that MAD Lions and Rogue are locked in for first place. It will likely come down to the sides matchup on Saturday to decide just who takes 1st spot ahead of playoffs.
As for the rest of the table, going into the first game of the weekend every single team can still claim one of the 4 remaining playoff spots. The reality is that G2 and SK Gaming should lock in 2 of those, leaving the rest to fight over the other 2. Fnatic should make it, though a tricky day one match against Excel will define if they make playoffs.
At the bottom of the table is Schalke. Given just a 4% chance back in week 7, the side now has roughly an 8% chance to make the playoffs and achieve the “miracle run”.
Excel v Fnatic
This has the makings of a very spicy first-day match. Excel and Fnatic find themselves tied in 5th place meaning they both technically sit in the final two playoff spots. Fnatic has a slightly higher chance of progression due to certain tie-breaker conditions but Excel will feel this is their chance to go for it. They go into the match as 33/20* outsiders, though Fnatic comes into the final week off the back another poor showing.
Fnatic really can’t afford a loss in this match. With Excel being joint with Fnatic, a loss here could doom Fnatic to the possibility of not making playoffs.Due to LEC head-to-head rules, the winning of the second meeting between two sides has the tiebreaker advantage. Fnatic is favourites for the match at 20/43, however, caution should be taken given Fnatics questionable recent record.
Rogue v MAD LIons
Rogue v MAD Lions is the game of the season, and it’s so fitting that it comes on the final weekend of the split. The sides are still tied and likely to win the rest of their matches, meaning the head-to-head victory between the two will likely decide who wins the regular season. Rogue are slight outsiders (1/1), but honestly, it could be a coin-flip. Rogue like to play for late, they like to squeeze you off the map and get the victory.
MAD Lions have had a fantastic split. Not only has the team been on an absolute tear in Summer Split, but the near-full rookie roster has also taken the LEC by storm and dosn’t seem to show signs of stopping. If it wasn’t for Rogue, MAD Lions’ achievement would probably be spoken about even higher, and with one of these two sides now guaranteed to end the Summer Split in the first place, it’s been a hell of a run for them both.
G2 v SK Gaming
G2 and SK will be shocked finding themselves tied for 3rd place on the final weekend of the LEC Summer Split. G2 would not have expected to be heading into a final weekend with no possibility of ending the split first, and SK Gaming has quietly just gotten on with the job and ended the split strong. Like we said about Rogue and MAD Lions, SK Gamings’ achievement would be even more impressive were it not for other sides also going above and beyond. G2 will be favourites at 10/27 and they look to be finding form just in time.
SK Gaming, on the other hand, has been one of the most consistent sides of the Summer Split and are more than worth their 3rd place. Sk Gaming is pretty close to locking in playoffs, with a match against Origen likely to secure their spot. However, a loss to Origen on day one could make the matches against G2 and Fnatic a nerve-racking experience for the side. Whilst outsiders at 39/20, SK Gaming has been great this split and could end the season in playoffs.
