As we move past the mid-way point of the 2021 LEC Spring Split, a clearer picture has begun to emerge in the region.
With G2 Esports and Rogue in a tight battle for first place, an 0-2 week for Fnatic saw them slip out of the top-spot race as MAD Lions moved to secure 3rd. This Saturday sees Excel take on Sk Gaming in the battle for the middle of the table. Schalke 04 looks to recover from an 0-2 week against a still misfiring Misfits side. Lastly, we have the G2 Esports v Fnatic rematch, with G2 Esports needing to get revenge on their title rival.
Excel Esports v SK Gaming
It was all starting to look so good for Excel Esports. Fighting for a spot in the playoffs, on a good run of form, and things finally looking good for the organisation. The cure of the 0-2 struck, however, and now Excel is looking to bounce back in week six. A Friday game against Misfits could set them up perfectly for a tougher challenge on Saturday. We have Excel as 1/1
to take the match and get their season back on track.
Unlike Excel, SK Gaming went 2-0 in week five and, thanks to other results going their way, found themselves in the top half of the table. Given recent form, we’re giving this match to Sk Gaming at 4/5
, though it’s always worth keeping an eye on the Friday results to see how the team is looking ahead of an important week six.
Schalke 04 v Misfits
After a brilliant start to the split, it has all fallen off for Schalke 04 as we enter week six. A strong start saw the team propel themselves into the top four, however, going 0-4 in the past two weeks has seen them crash back down to Earth. That said, a winnable match against Misfits, which we have at 5/ 8 in their favour could turn their fortunes around.
It’s been a really tough start to 2021 for Misfits. Struggling to put in a series of victories. Despite two upset wins against Fnatic and MAD Lions, Misfits has not built on these victories, especially struggling against sides they’ll be competing against for the playoffs. Schalke 04, despite being favourites for this series are a very beatable team right now, and at 5/4
odds to take it, Misfits might finally be able to crack the code.
G2 Esports v Fnatic
It seems like only yesterday we were preparing for a G2 v Fnatic match. Here we are, week six and it’s come around again. The last time Fnatic got the better of G2 Esports, however, recent changes in the form will lead you to believe G2 should take this one. With pride and pressure on the top spot on the line, we have G2 as 5/12
favourites to take down Fnatic as they look to march on a top spot ahead of playoffs.
Despite the win back in week three, Fnatic has hit a poor bit of form in recent weeks. If they can shake that off, they might just be a good outside contender here. At 9/5
to topple G2 Esports for a second time, Fnatic is worthy outsiders if they can show up. Not only is pride on the line for Fnatic, but they also won’t want a 1-1 week or even another 0-2 week as we get into the business end of the season.
