It was an amazing first week of LEC action, with most people’s top picked side failing to win a single game. Fnatic and Rogue were the standout sides, coming away with 3-0 records. MAD Lions, Misfits, and G2 came away with 2-1 records as the LEC already has some standout sides.
Vitality
It was a week to forget for the LEC Super Team. Failing to pick up a win in their first weekend, week two just got a lot more serious. Their weekend opens with a series against BDS (1-2), now it’s too early to call anything a must-win, but this really feels like it already. Their second game of the weekend is a much trickier affair. With them facing off against G2 Esports, the former home of Vitality’s star mid-laner Perkz. A 1-1 week would be good enough for Vitality, but another winless week would be a disaster at this early stage of the season.
Fnatic
We said in our article last week that Fnatic was a side to watch, and oh boy did they deliver. Quickly becoming one of the strongest sides in the LEC, they more than delivered in the opening weekend. Week two starts off “easy” with a game against Astralis, however, game two will see them face off against Misfits (2-1) who’ve looked great thus far. Fnatic can go 2-0 this week, and based on fixtures for Rogue (also 3-0) they might just be the only unbeaten side this time next week.
Rogue
On the other 3-0 side, Rogue face a slightly tricker week. Day one sees them face off against their old rival MAD Lions (2-1) will be looking to spoil the party, and while they’ve lost one game already they look like a tough team to beat. Game two will see them face off against BDS, who while struggling in week one will only improve as the LEC Split goes on. Regardless, it’s easy to see Rogue, like Fnatic, having another 2-0 week here.
Misfits
Misfits were a surprise package in the first week of the LEC. Going 2-1, only losing to Rogue in the process, Misfits find themselves in a strong spot heading into week two. Week two starts off a little easier, with Excel (1-2) on Friday, before they head into a much harder match against Fnatic (3-0). Now, a win here would be a massive statement for Misfits, but a good performance alone might be enough if they end up 1-1 over the weekend.
Best of the Rest
G2 Esports should be aiming for 2-0 given the week one results, however, they’ll need to be careful of a potential banana skin against Vitality. BDS could easily go 0-2 in week two, but the new roster has shown signs that they’re up for the fight. SK Gaming has a must-win against fellow 1-2 side, Excel, before they face Vitality.
Excel would have a major win if they can go 1-1 in week two, especially if they can beat SK Gaming, who sit alongside them in the LEC. Lastly is Astralis, who went 0-3 in week one, and week two isn’t looking like it’ll be much easier on them.
