League One predictions, betting tips and best bets
Burton Albion vs Wigan
FST Predicts: Both teams to score
Two of League One’s bottom three face off at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday, when rock bottom Burton Albion host Wigan in 23rd in an authentic relegation six-pointer.
Remarkably, goals have flown in at both ends in 100% of Albion’s last eight league assignments, while Wigan saw goals plundered at either end in four of their last six League One fixtures. With neither defence looking sound, we expect goals to be notched at both ends again here.
Accrington Stanley vs Sunderland
FST Predicts: Draw
Promotion hopefuls Accrington Stanley and Sunderland will both be aiming to secure a statement victory at the other’s expense at the Crown Ground on Tuesday, though a share of the spoils looks a far likelier outcome.
Accrington have lost just once on their own patch this term, while Sunderland are the only League One outfit yet to taste defeat on the road since the summer. With four draws in their last six matches overall, the Black Cats are quickly developing into one of the division’s draw specialists however, another stalemate against Accy could follow.
Fleetwood Town vs Doncaster Rovers
FST Predicts: Both teams to score
Doncaster’s four-game winning surge came to end against Shrewsbury last week and their 0-1 reverse against the Shrews was also the first time in 17 competitive fixtures where Rovers failed to find the net.
Darren Moore’s side will expect to get back into the goal-scoring groove at Fleetwood this week, though Rovers’ return of just one clean sheet from 12 games suggests the hosts can also get in on the act at Highbury Stadium.
Swindon Town vs Milton Keynes Dons
FST Predicts: Swindon double chance
Struggling Swindon have collected 13 of their 17 points this season at the County Ground, and The Robins will hope to harness home advantage again when they host an inconsistent Milton Keynes side in familiar surroundings on Tuesday.
The Dons were beaten to nil in each of their last two League One away assignments and with their confidence knocked, they should arrive in Swindon as vulnerable visitors again.
Northampton Town vs Gillingham
FST Predicts: Gillingham to win
Successive 4-0 thumpings to Oxford and Lincoln City will have left fourth from bottom Northampton reeling and shorn of self-belief, and on Tuesday Town face another tough test against a Gillingham team enjoying life at the opposite end of the confidence spectrum.
The Gills were convincing 4-1 winners at Rochdale last time out – a result that provided their fourth win in eight League One away fixtures this term. Steve Evans charges have won three of their last four contests on the road overall, and another profitable away day could follow at the PTS Academy Stadium.
Plymouth Argyle vs Oxford United
FST Predicts: Plymouth double chance
Plymouth ended a dismal run of six losses on the bounce with a narrow 1-0 triumph over MK Dons in their last home match, and Argyle followed up their victory by taking a useful point in a 2-2 draw at Charlton.
Despite their overall downturn, the Pilgrims remain one of League One’s strongest home teams, and only three clubs have amassed more points than Argyle on their own patch since the season began. Oxford have form, though United have only won twice in nine attempts on their travels in 2020/21, and that record suggests Plymouth should be backed to avoid another defeat.
