While most of the Boxing Day focus will be understandably aimed at the six Premier League fixtures scheduled and the full contingent of Championship matches, there’s plenty of interest to be found lower down the footballing pyramic.
With nine League One matches set to kick off at 3pm Boxing Day, what better way to while away the afternoon than by tuning in to some high octane EFL action?
Here at FST we’ve scoured the fixtures to bring you the very best League One predictions for Boxing Day’s 3pm kickoffs.
League One predictions and best bets
Charlton vs Plymouth
FST predicts: Charlton win
Charlton conceded a stoppage time equaliser at Swindon last weekend but the Addicks can return to winning ways on Saturday.
They may have only won one of their last four, but at home they are a different beast. The hosts have won four of their last five league games at The Valley and face a Plymouth side that have lost six of their last seven games.
To make matters worse, the Pilgrims haven’t won a league away game since February and have picked up just one point from their last seven trips.
MK Dons vs Bristol Rovers
FST predicts: Bristol Rovers DC
A 1-0 defeat to the out-of-form Plymouth last weekend resigned MK Dons to their fourth consecutive winless match, and they could see that run extended when they host Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day.
The visitors have won back-to-back games for the first time since October and have only lost one of their last six League One away games, while The Dons are winless in five home matches.
Wigan vs Shrewsbury
FST predicts: Shrewsbury win
Shrewsbury head into Boxing Day unbeaten in six matches and coming off the back of their third consecutive 1-0 victory. All three of these wins have come away from home, and they’re facing a Wigan side that do tend to struggle at the DW Stadium.
The hosts have won just one of their last seven home matches in League One and have lost three of their last five, so an away win looks excellent value on Saturday.
Blackpool vs Rochdale
FST predicts: Blackpool win
It was a drab and dreary goalless draw at Accrington Stanley last week, but that point does leave 12th-placed Blackpool unbeaten in five matches and they have what it takes to get all three points on Boxing Day.
Rochdale have lost three of their last four league outings and their 4-1 hammering at home to Rochdale last weekend was their second such thrashing since the start of December. They have shipped ten goals in their last four games and could slip into the relegation zone on Saturday.
