The LEC returns for week 5 of action after the mid-split break. Not much has changed with the teams roster, with just Origen making a change to the support role, which saw Destiny replaced by Jactroll.
MAD Lions and Rogue currently hold onto the top spot, with G2 Esports and Misfits the two sides to break away from the 5-way tie below. Schalke 04 remain the bottom of the table side, however, their week 4 shock victory against Fnatic has seen them at least pick up their first win of the Summer Split.
G2 Esports v MAD Lions
G2 go into the series as favorites, odds on at 5/8*, however, with MAD Lions currently sitting at joint first, it could be a spicy fixture. G2 Esports are likely to be at full strength this week, with P1noy coming in during week 4 to sub for Perkz who took a week off. With all teams having a week off and a chance to recover, G2 Esports could come into the weekend as a dangerous foe. It will be an important weekend for them, with a match against 1st place MAD Lions followed by a playoff rival in Origen on Saturday.
As we said, MAD Lions come into the series as the 5/ 4 underdog, but the match could be close, especially if we take form into account. G2 are one of only two sides to beat MAD Lions this season back in week 1, however, MAD Lions have caused so many sides problems this Split that anything could happen. MAD Lions near full rookie roster has looked like a tour de force in 2020, and we wouldn’t be too surprised if they sprung another upset.
Misfits v Fnatic
At the start of the Summer Split, a week 5 matchup between Misfits and Fnatic wouldn’t have seemed like a battle between two mid-table sides, yet here are we. Week 5 and Fnatic find themselves in unfamiliar territory, and weeks away from being near the top spot. They’re available for the match as 5/9 favorites but have been inconsistent this split, especially with the sides weird week 3 drafts which saw ADC Rekkles playing off-role champions.
Misfits have probably been one of the sides to over-perform on pre-split expectations, finding themselves in 4th place, just behind G2 Esports. With the 5-way-tie block likely to be broken up after week 5, Misfits will need to pick up a win from Fnatic, if they hope to avoid being leapfrogged. They go into the match at 27/20, and faceoff against a Fnatic side that’s still struggling to settle during the Summer Split so far.
G2 Esports v Origen
G2 Esports’ second match of the weekend sees them play against the storied LEC side, Origen. Origen has largely disappointed this split thus far, but with a mid-split roster change in the support role, Origen might have something to prove. G2 Esports’ match on Friday will give us a much better indication of what G2 has returned from the mid-season break, however, the starting roster of G2 is by far the best side in the LEC, so a win (4/9) should be in the offing.
As for Origen, they’ve been the enigma of the LEC in Summer Split. Much talked about, storied and hyped, Origen has just always failed to deliver on the potencial. During the break they’ve made a change in the support role, replacing rookie Destiny, with former Team Vitality support Jactroll taking his place. On paper, and even individual stats, Origen should be a top 4 side in the LEC, they currently find themselves mixed up in the 5-way-tie. We have them winning the series at 17/10, Jactroll should fit into the side fairly quickly, with bot lane synergy able to be achieved fairly well with online play during the break.
