Real Madrid vs Huesca
If ever there was one, La Liga: Real Madrid vs Huesca is a David vs Goliath match for sure, and this weekend that’s the fixture we have to look forward to as Michel takes his minnows to the battlefield of the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid, who won La Liga for the 34th time last season, entertain Huesca, the Segunda Division champions who are spending their second campaign in the top flight. The visitors normally play in front of a 7,000 crowd when they’re at home, but in these strange times, there will be considerably fewer fans at the Santiago Bernabeu for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.
Los Blancos are aiming for back to back wins and to put their marker down in the early stages of the title race, while Huesca are hoping for a first league victory of the season.
Talking Points
Real Madrid to go top with a win
League leaders Real Sociedad are in Europa League action tonight and don’t play their game, away to Celta Vigo, until Sunday, so a win for Los Blancos over Huesca will take them to the summit of the table, for 24 hours at least.
Skipper Sergio Ramos scored a crucial penalty in last week’s 1-3 El Clasico victory, while Luka Modric and Fede Valverde were also on target. And Los Blancos’ league form has been pretty solid so far, picking up 13 points from six matches; the only real blemish being a shock 0-1 defeat to new boys Cadiz two weeks ago. The win in Catalonia was the perfect way for Zinedine Zidane’s players to respond, and then Los Blancos’ fought back to take a Champions League point away to Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday night.
The pre-match Real Madrid vs Huesca news features a possible return to the starting line up for Eden Hazard after the attacking midfielder came off the bench against Monchengladbach, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois should be fit to start having recovered from a muscle strain. Luka Modric is also in contention for a starting place while Karim Benzema is sure to lead the line.
Hard to beat Huesca
The latest Real Madrid vs Huesca betting odds don’t give the visitors much of a prayer for this game but, although Huesca sit in the bottom three without a win this season, they have only lost twice, drawing the other five games.
They have picked up points against Villarreal and Valencia and les Oscenses had a very impressive result against Los Blancos’ neighbours at the end of September recently, drawing 0-0 with Atletico Madrid in a game they certainly deserved to get at least a point out of. Against a team including star names Luis Suarez, Joao Felix and Saul Niguez, the underdogs lost the shot count by nine to 16, but had three on target whereas Los Rojiblancos just had the two.
They enter this match on the back of a 4-1 defeat to league leaders Sociedad and Michel’s team will have to face Los Blancos’ attack without key defender Pedro Lopez, while midfielder Mikel Rico has recently tested positive for COVID 19. His place could go to Javi Ontiveros, on loan from Villarreal, but Michel’s options are limited and he will hope the team which suffered at the hands of Sociedad can find their form against another Madrid giant.
History
Los Blancos have won the only two meetings between these two teams, but it took a last-gasp winner from Karim Benzema to see off Huesca towards the end of the 2018/19 season. The visitors were rock bottom but put up a real fight before losing 3-2 to the French striker’s 89th-minute winner.
Los Blancos won the return match 0-1, so Huesca are yet to receive a hiding from their illustrious opponents, though without a win in seven they have their work cut out.

October 31, 21:0 (GMT+8) |
Beating Barcelona and then fighting back against a dangerous Borussia Monchengladbach team has made it a successful week for Los Blancos, who are at 1.34, here at SBOTOP, to make it back to back wins and take the La Liga top spot. Huesca are at 8.44 to spring a major surprise and even a draw would send shock waves through the league at odds of 4.55.
The champions did lose to Cadiz recently and Huesca must hope that lightning can strike twice, but they need to catch Real on a bad day and, with Hazard due a return, that just doesn’t look likely.
