Burnley are unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches and they will move out of the relegation zone if they extend that run when they play host to Leicester City on Tuesday.
All eyes will be on Turf Moor for the only top-flight match this midweek, and the incentive is certainly there for a Burnley side that have boosted their survival hopes after taking seven points from a possible nine.
Remarkably Sean Dyche’s side could move to within three points of 13th-place Leicester with another victory on Tuesday, and the Foxes are not exactly in sparkling form, failing to win any of their five league fixtures since the turn of the year.
Clarets to Extend Impressive Run
Burnley had only won one of their opening 21 league matches this season, but they have since claimed back-to-back wins over Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace.
In truth, the Clarets have been improving for some time, as they have only lost one of their last seven top-flight games, while defensively they have been solid throughout the campaign, conceding just 30 league goals to date, the sixth best record in the division.
Leicester could prove the ideal opponents for in-form Burnley, as the Foxes appear to be going through a period of transition under Brendan Rodgers, losing four top-flight matches in a row away from home.
The momentum certainly seems to be with a Burnley side that have also taken four points from their last two home meetings with Leicester, so backing a Clarets win at 19/10 could be the way to go, with Leicester priced at 29/20 and the draw, which would be enough to lift the hosts out of the relegation zone, available at 9/4.
A Fixture That Usually Provides Goals
Burnley may have built much of their success over recent years on a strong defence, but that tends to go out of the window when they face Leicester, with each of the last six meetings between the two sides seeing both teams score.
That sequence includes a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium earlier this season, as well as the 2-1 victory Burnley claimed at Turf Moor back in January 2020 – Ashley Westwood scored a late winner that day.
Leicester are certainly a side that provides plenty of entertainment, with both teams having scored in 22 of their last 27 matches across all competitions.
Couple that with Burnley netting in four of their last five and it is easy to see both teams scoring on Tuesday at odds of 20/29.
Returning Firepower for Both Teams
The likelihood of goals on Tuesday will be boosted further, as both teams are set to welcome back their leading scorers for the season following respective injury layoffs.
Maxwel Cornet will be back for Burnley after missing the last two games with a foot issue, and the Ivorian will be keen to add to the six Premier League goals he has already struck during his debut season in the English top flight.
Leicester’s forward line will also be boosted by the return of talisman Jamie Vardy, who has been sidelined since December with a hamstring issue.
Vardy grabbed a brace when the two teams met at the King Power earlier in the season – a day when he also put through his own net – and he can be backed at 13/10 to make a scoring return to action.
Cornet also scored in that 2-2 draw back in September, with the 25-year-old available at 23/10 to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday.
