DROP down from the rain-sodden East Pennines through Diggle, Delph and Dobcross and you’ll come across the small town of Mossley – keep heading Southwest for another 4 miles and you’ll hit Ashton-under-Lyne…home of The Nash and site of departing coaches for the main event for every Red Rose-blooded local …
CURZON ASHTON VS. MOSSLEY (7.45pm)
It’s Cup Final day in Tameside as these two rain-soaked and clog-wearing sets of fans come head to head in Hyde for the Manchester Senior Cup final and it ought to be a cracker.
The sides sit 2 tiers apart with Nash sitting perilously close (but probably safe) to the foot of National League North and Mossley on the periphery of a potential play-off place from the Non-League Div One to the Non-League Premier – don’t be under any allusions as to the importance of bragging rights here and come 9.30 Lancashire time, there’ll be whippets and stray cats getting kicked in one town or t’other.
Nash obliterated Chadderton 8-0 in the semi-finals with Mossley knocking out my old club Raccy Borough 3-2 after getting a ‘by’ as FC Utd were expelled for fielding ineligible players in the previous round – with 5 of the last 6 meetings between the two seeing 3+ goals, I can’t see the match being shy of action.
Mossley’s Lillywhite’s will be no pushover for the ‘bigger’ team and Nash’s manager Mark Bradshaw knows it, citing them as favourites based on the squad’s experience – factor in that Mossley won this Cup 3 years ago and Curzon Ashton haven’t been victorious in a whopping 29 years and prices look big for the smaller side at 3/1 for any braver souls:

Best of luck
