It was fantastic to break through the 900-barrier last Friday on Master Milliner for Emma Lavelle. It was a fantastic performance from the team there and the horse did it in great style! The countdown is on for the next 100 to break 1,000!
We are reaching the latter end of the flat season now, and you can notice that with the drop in temperature and pouring rain, but there are still plenty of nice horses left to run!
Friday at Ascot
16:50- RIP ORF
RIP ORF 33/1 is a grand old horse who owes connections (and me) absolutely nothing. He’s won some big races and has gone close in plenty more. He loves the straight track at Ascot and likes a strong pace to run at. He hasn’t shown a huge amount in his two runs this season, but he’s now down to a similar mark to the one he won the Victoria Cup off in 2018 so you definitely can’t rule him out.
Saturday at Newmarket
13:10 – SECRET BEAR
SECRET BEAR is trained by Gay Kelleway. He is a 7,000gns colt by Pearl Secret who will be making his first start. It is interesting to see he has been gelded already. This will be his first day at school and I expect him to improve plenty for this run.
13:45 – ATAVIQUE
ATAVIQUE is another from the Gay Kelleway yard. She is up in grade after finishing a decent fourth in good race at Newmarket recently. She wasn’t beaten that far here last time and has been dropped 1lb. This looks a decent renewal so we might have our work cut out to win, but I expect her to be competitive.
14:20 – SIR HENRY COTTON
SIR HENRY COTTON is trained by Andrew Balding. He finished down the field at Windsor in a novice race last month. This represents a significant rise in grade for him. There is plenty of prize money on offer, however, so it is worth rolling the dice to try and sneak a place!
